Hello there, Facepunchers
I have been trying to animate this weapon, so that it can be used as a viewmodel in the Source Engine. The modeling software I use is Blender
I'm not really sure on how I should proceed, tough. I'll give you a picture of the situation :
There's the CSS arms + their bones and my model on the scene. If I merge my weapon with the CSS arms, I can not control the movement of the gun, as it isn't parented to any bone.
If I parent the weapon to a bone and then merge the arms and the weapon, the parenting screws up and does not work as intended.
Basicly, how am I supposed to link a pre-existing bone to my weapon after merging? And is it really necessary to merge both meshes?
In case it isn't clear, all the bones in the scene are imported along the arms. (I am using a decompiled knife viewmodel)
I can't say anything specific blender wise, but there should be an option somewhere to Link the model to a bone, which effectively parents it to whatever you attach it to whilst keeping it a separate mesh.
This'll keep the "Real" rigging of the hands intact, and will let the knife move without being deformed.
Linking can have other uses too, like centering a model made out of multiple sub-parts by linking the bits together.
