Here's a new question if someone could answer please: I'm trying to edit a character and while I've changed the color of what I wanted, the reflection still shows marks. I checked the both the vtf and the bump vtf I can't see where the reflections is picking up the old overlay? Could you help me there? (e.g. removed stripes from spiderman, but can see a reflection of the stripes in the right light.)
It's the envmapping and probably a specular map causing this. You need to edit the VMT text file to remove the envmap parameters so that it does not reflect like that. You can always remake the specular mask so it looks better. Or it's the normal map and phong shading causing it. In which case you would have to modify the normal map to not have any indents/noise where its occurring.
