Hi all,
I've been trying to find converters or importers for Source model files of version 37 (the version used in the leaked Half-Life 2 Beta). There are threads around, but they only refer to an importer for 3DS Max 6/7, which I don't have (and it's out of date and hard to find).
The ideal thing would be a converter that formats v37 models into v40 models (I think v40 is the current version). However, if that's impossible, a v37 decompiler (or an importer for a modelling program) would be the next best thing.
Also, do 3DS Max R6 plugins work with 3DS Max 10/11? If so, my problem COULD be resolved, as 3DS Max 2011 is a lot easier to find than R6.

This is an old thread with resources on it relevant only to users of very outdated versions of 3DS Max. Check a few posts down, and you'll see a long tutorial in a quote. I tried looking for V37 decompilers too, but to no avail. If you know of one, then it would be useful to me, so post a link here!

EDIT: Crap, forgot to say that it doesn't come with the QC or physics model! I apologize for not paying enough attention, but I do believe there's no other choice other than using either THIS one or CannonFodder's which I can't get to work. Gabe's Love Tub has a V37 decompiler which seems better AND even a V35 decompiler!!!
Did you try changing the IDST header on the beta models? It might or might not work. it works on newer models than the decompiler supports, perhaps it would go the other way as well.
The first five bytes ought to be uh IDST, I believe. 49 44 53 54 2C
Of course you might have to modify more than just the mdl.

Oh, crap. The decompiler doesn't produce a QC file or the collision model. That means it's gonna be pretty damn hard to recompile it. Thanks a lot for posting it Benjamin, but I'm afraid it's probably of no use unfortunately. Dang :(

Argh, I don't think Gabe's Love Tub are going to release the decompiler they used for Missing Information. That really sucks. I was only gonna use the converted models for personal purposes, not to make a new mod or anything.
What is different from v35, v37 and v44 is that 35 and 37 use an old .VTX file named model.dx7_2bone.vtx and doesn't use .dx90.vtx's so only the DX7 to DX8 vertexes are used in the leak. Forgot that 37 and 35 use Source Engine 2 instead of 7, 14 or 15

Does that mean that the dx7_2bone file is the only problem when it comes to decompiling models using CannonFodder's decompiler? Because as I understand it, the .mdl file in V35-37 uses the same format as V44, except the fifth character in the .mdl file is a % in V35-37, and a comma (,) in V44.

I know Scart has a working v35 decompiler and that russian HL2 leak site have some publicly available method of getting v35 and 37 into 3dsmax.
I know this because I have the source files and a compiled version of the old v35 dropship with it's original leaked animations.

I know that this post is over 5 years old, but can some do me a favor and port the leaked Combine Soldier from the beta with its original animations? I really need it for something I'm working on.
