I am new to 3d Max and just made my first object, a basic table. I need to have it UV mapped so it at least doesn't look terrible. Is there any highly recommended way modelers UV map using 3d Max?
Personally, I break up the model into several parts, UV each section, then scatter the UVs all around the edges of UV coordinated 0-1. I scale each element until they're almost all the same texture resolution, then I start packing them into the center square.
I can highly recommend using TexTools with Max, makes it so much faster.

Planar mapping gets you pretty far. I might do a quick tutorial video later if I have time.
