How to add bones to a model being imported into SFM?

Alright, I was able to import a mesh in blender and I was also able to export it as .sdm and then later able to compile it to be SFM compatible. However, when I spawned the model, it only had one bone. Would anyone like to tell me how to add bones into the model
using blender or any other software so that it can later be compiled into SFM?
I've had this problem before as well. Do all the bones have vertices weighted to them?

There are no bones at all other than the root.

Well there you go. If you don't give a model bones how can it suddenly spawn them in SFM?
Make sure your model has the "Armature" modifier applied.
Ok I added an armature. What is an armature modifier? Also, blender won't let me export the model.
You really should take some time to actually learn the program before taking on a project.

You are right Squiddy. However, right now I just need some help. I can't seem to find the answers elsewhere. I know there are good people here on facepunch that could help me.
It should like this.
