Black Box

Ok, random model release time.

Included is a simple digital flight data recorder, better known as a black box. It comes in two flavors, "brand spanking" new and "beat the crap out of" old.

Has normalmaps and phong. That's pretty much it.

The earliest ones were painted black, until they realized that made it harder to find in the wreckage. So they changed the color, but the name stuck.

Well, it is supposed to look like it just survived a plane crash, so I don't think they're that unnatural.

Weight. A plane built to the same specs as a flight data recorder would literally be too heavy to fly. An FDR has to withstand 3400 Gs and 1000 degrees. In comparison, most aircraft break apart at a few dozen.

Also, IIRC, the boxes are made from some titanium alloy. Which is what many planes are made of. They just don't make it as thick or reinforced.

Besides, people die after just 12 Gs. What's the point of making a plane survive the crash if everyone aboard has a snapped neck?
