Are there any good tutorials on making a large dome for a building? or, how would i go about doing this?

Normally I just create a primitive sphere (depending on the size, choose how many divisions you want) then use the clipping tool and cut it in half. :| That is for a solid dome. ;D Otherwise I think your best bet would be that tutorial. (Don't try hollowing out the sphere by the way, it creates thousands of faces)
An easier way would be to create an arch, copy / paste and rotate it however many times you want the parabola to have and then use the clipping tool on the edges.

I would suggest unselecting the bottom part, group the dome shape, then delete the bottom.
Get someone to make you a model, that's basically it.

It's simple as creating a sphere, deleting the lower vertices, and using the append to polygon (or cap holes for 3dsmax) tool to create a bottom. I already helped another guy make a planet in maya, with 10 huge pictures as I went along, it's not that hard to model with basic stuff like this
