Alrighty then folks, letsa geta to it!
I am releasing the beta for my new map gm_apartment. There isn't too much to say, but its an apartment map if you couldn't guess it :P Anyways, this map is a detailed apartment map with a good amount of rooms, which are good for movie making, and since it has a good amount of detail, its even the better for making maps. The map is good for

This is a side project to a house map I'm making. But I don't JUST do house maps, I do all kinds! I've been working on this for a little while, since I've been taking long breaks from it because I've been busy ;-) This is just a beta, ofcourse, so its going to be glitchy, but in V2 I'll get the bugs out.
KNOWN BUGS:

[*] Too small (Well, I might make this a FULL building if you like the map ;-)

Alright, so remember this is the beta stage so its buggy, V2 and more, maybe even a complete building to come!!!
Give me feedback and suggestions. If you guys like, I can expland on the map and maybe even make it so you can go outside the building and make it a full building and yadah yadah!

And one other thing- Do you guys think I should add just a little outside deck? I was thinking that but that'd mean I'd have to make a whole outside front of building with windows and balconies of other apartments. I'm thinking they should be added if I make this a FULL apartment?

Thanks! I just fixed a few things like the falling vent in the third room, improved the lighting, put in color correction (may be in the next version, but that takes some tweaking) and added some realistic particles. I'm gonna be adding a ladder somewhere so you don't have to noclip into the vents. My idea was the player had to build something to hop into the vent but most people didn't like that so the customer is always right :P Nah but whatever it takes to please! Thanks!

I know its a good game, I've played it on a friends. Its just everyone in my family thinks the computer cant run it, there for they wont let me get it. :gonk:

Nope, just default HL2 textures, as said by Firegod522. But I reccomend getting it since many maps use the EP2 models/textures. Its a good game too :P And why not try EP2 on your computer? I mean whats the worst that can happen? Doesn't run and you just return it and get your money back? :P

I'm happy I have my own computer to do what I want, but then again I don't want to be a big giant asshole and brag cause I do feel bad for you :-( But like I said, this doesn't contain any Ep2 content, but it DOES CS:S, but I'm sure you have that if your playing this on garrysmod. :P But if you come across any pink and black textures, lemme know, I can fix that for ya. But I doubt there will be a problem ;-)

I would like some feedback from people that played on this map, know what its for and what its about, and can lemme know what they think after playing it.
Now that we have things straight xD
I love apartments, especially ones in the getto, those are the best with the brick and the windows that are clear and are transparent that you can see through and the opening doors that swing and come in all different shapes and sizes that rotate and have door knobs that turn, I wish I had those things at my house, I also would like a functioning car that can move forward and backward and can drive and can get me to places that I want to go to and have rubber tires and wheels that turn any which way, the american dream, but anyways about your apartment, I llove it. :D I need to put those see through holes in the wall into my house.

Well the map was built off of the counterstrike game engine, but the textures for that game do not seem to fit the style of the map. The map style is all about looking like a slum apartment, or just a very beat up, old apartment to sum it up. CS:S has fairly "pretty" textures which would be good for an office, or newer apartment, if I were to use those textures, but wouldn't look old and beat up. To me, atleast, the HL2 textures make the map look so much better. Although, I am thinking of doing simply a modern day version of this map, so it looks like new. But thats after I get this version done. But thanks for the reply, I can definatly take that into consideration.
On a side note, V2 will be uploaded most likely today, although I never ever like to give out an estimated arrival date since whenever I give those out, it just turns out to be I am, in fact, a week late. :P Anyways, v2 will NOT have a 3d outside environment because that is being worked on, it will just have this bright, white light (and that wasn't an intentional rhyme) shining in through the window, its a method I've seen on a few other house/apartment maps. Looks really cool and gives a very, very cool lighting/shadow effect, so stay tuned!

From your screenshots, the lights look a little bright, try reducing the number of lights in the room and their brightness. They're white, which you should change (Lights are almost never white). You can change the colour to match the atmosphere, which you can see in some maps where they use blue lights underground to make it seem "Cool". A pale orange is a common colour for incandescent lights. A sprite just under the model, coloured the same as the light can also help make the light fixture look a little better.

Hello! I don't know if you may have glanced over it, but in the V2 section I added a to come list, and within it, I said I am going to update the lighting. But thanks for the tip. I already did the lighting, so I think you'll be satisfied the way I did it. This beta version is just a low quality, low detail outline of to what is to come in the final versions. All the lighting just used light_spot, because I just wanted people to see the [i]idea[/i] of the map, not the actual detail. In v2 I redid the lighting, added particle effects, added ambient sounds, like air vent sounds where the air vents are. The lighting is very, very beautiful. Its not bright white like it was in the first version, it is a darker, brownish, slightly orange color, which, after tweaking a bit looks very realistic. Also, I did some work on the color correction to make it much more realistic, set the mood. I also tweaked the shadow control, it was a bit buggy before. Still a little buggy now but its being worked on. I added light switches, a very simple addition. I added sprites on the lights to make the lights look better aswell. Thanks for the tips though, and hopefuly on V2 the lighting will be good, me and my friends (who beta test it I guess you could say) think it looks very good. Cubemaps also are being fixed up.
Oh and I just checked out the link you sent me out of curiosity! Its so odd! The exact way it shows is the way I did it! I guess that means I know the proper way of doing it! :P Thanks! :-) I had the light spot with a sprite on it. The sprite really does a good job at illuminating the light and whats around it, makes it really realistic. I'm glad I've been doing it the right way :-)
i'm seeing purple/pink and ERRORS all over the place, and I have the HL2 extension mounted. Is there any way to fix this?
