For some reason, I never finish a map, I have been mapping for about a year and only released one map.
I have like 5 vmfs in my folder and none of them are even completed, I get good ideas from friends and stuff and I start doing it but I just don't complete the maps. Is there anything I can do or something to help me get back and finish those maps?
Yeah, thanks. What else can I do, in case that doesn't work

Not much else? You just have to program yourself to get into a work ethic, and simply forcing yourself to finish projects is the best way to do that.
Okay thanks, would it be a good idea to draw out a layout?

You do whatever you feel is necessary for whatever it is you're doing. TBH I only draw up plans for something if I want to be committed to it and finish/release it.
You should follow these guys http://www.worldofleveldesign.com/
They have level design challenges once in a while. A good one was the 11 days level design challenge. We had 11 days to make a playable map and also organise things.
My scheduel for that kind of challenge was:
DAY 1:
Idea, Research, Reference, Floor plan and Gameplay Elements.
Sketches, drawings.
DAY 2:
Geometry
DAY 3:
Geometry
DAY 4:
Texturing
DAY 5:
Geometry
DAY 6:
Geometry
DAY 7:
Texturing
DAY 8:
Geometry
DAY 9:
Lighting
Day 10:
FX, Sound, FX, Optimization and Final Touches
DAY 11:
FX, Sound and Final Touches
FINAL:
Beta Release
You don't have to work like a whole day on something, just a few hours here and there and you'll finish it. The best way to finish a map is to have a DEADLINE.
Basically, don't do everything at the same time or you'll get bored if it pretty fast.
Oh yeah, this is the map I did in 11 days.

5? that's not many at all. I have at least 20+ vmf's starting last year and I've never released any
I have over 150. I just counted.
Ive got 464 vmfs :/ about 3 years worth

Why count? Just drag your mouse over them and make a box, then right click properties bam, lists how many files.
cant seem to finish sentences either

Unless they are split into multiple directories, I have mine sorted in folders by status
I share this problem. I finished one map and it's still in beta. I tend not to finish anything. When i really want something done I make deals with myself. For example say "one hour of work then I'll plug back in my speakers"

Drag your mouse over each folder as well?
Used to have this problem. The trick is to work on a map that YOU want to play on. It works like a charm.

I agree. The map that I hope to finish sometime in the Summer is being worked on because I would enjoy playing it, even by myself.
Any other map that I have no intention of using, I can never get the motivation for it.
Ah thanks:D So I just need to make a map that I really really like.. Hmmm.... *Has super idea* :D
Damn there goes that idea....
