there are a few hints I can give you about optimization - the source engine is not fond of massive open spaces, so settings like cities will be slow, what you can do is break the map up into different sections, like big rooms but with a skybox for a ceiling (Evo_city, which has a thread here, is a good example of this) - turn any brush that is not sealing off the inside of the map or separating major sections of the map into a func_detail. - use the no draw texture on any brush side that the player cannot see heres a nice tutorial [url]http://www.tophattwaffle.com/hammer-tutorial-v2-series-6-basic-optimization/[/url]
I know about Nodraw , func details etc ... But i couldnt understand hint , Skip , occluders . If anyone is interested add me on skype.
I'm going to be honest with you. Chances are no one here will want to touch the map. Reason being is because you made the map already and didn't have the optimization techniques that most people use in mind meaning it's going to be really hard to correct it at this point. To put it in perspective when Jonny and I had to go back and fix things up for zps_haunted and zps_nightmare it was awful. It took us I would say 3 weeks between the two of us for each map because the original creator didn't have optimization techniques in mind. So brushes were off grid, brushes were intersecting, there were no areaportals or func_detail. It was long, boring and hard. At first it doesn't sound bad until you realize that one brush being corrected effects all the other brushes around it so each of those now has to be realigned. Then of course because brushes have been moved props have to be slightly adjusted along with decals and overlays because now they are no longer on the same brush face. But hey at the end of it all compile time went from 24 hours to 15 minutes and the worst official zpo map was made.
