• Early WIP. Project "Waterworld"

Just starting something up to doddle around with in my free time. Will this go anywhere? I dunno. I've always wanted to try and make a post-apocalyptic sort of map like this. There's lots of post-apoc maps that are dry and desert-y. But there seems to be a lack of them on the other end of the spectrum, where there's -too- much water. I have a sort of vision for this. It would be like a small town build on the rooftops of old buildings. This one is what I would call "The rich part of town". I think that this would be where the wealthy or powerful people would live int he lap of luxury. I plan on having this be the center of "The estates", with other smaller houses around it (I'm thinking trailer homes on floating platforms) Another part would be the 'The Trade Roof'. A roof of a larger business that has had small shops made from scrap material built on it. It would act as the 'city square' per say, all areas connecting to it though bridges. On the opposite end of the 'Trade roof' would be the tenement area, lots of shanty-style places, with enough room for a bed or two. This would be where the commoners would be. Maybe to one side of the 'Trade roof' would be a security station, on the other a dock or something. Anyway, here are some very early WIP of the 'Pala Esta' or 'The Pala', depending which name is picked. The story behind this is that it used to be a run-down apartment building called "Palace Estates", but after the flood and years of neglect, letters were removed or fell off the sign until only "Pala Esta" remained. This would be considered the nicest place to be, because it's a real apartment with electricity (from wind turbines). Most like the mayor (or powerful criminal boss) would live here. Maybe I'll draw out some rough map of what I was thinking of how everything would be laid out.
I think it's a pretty awesome idea actually. You could make something pretty awesome out of it I think.
Not strictly what you're talking about, but it might give you a few ideas nonetheless: Waterworld, or at least, my attempts at it..

It'll take some time before I can round out the first areas, but I'll certainly try to see what you did. I think the shanty-style buildings you made looks good
do us a favor and don't make brush-based lettering, use custom textures or something please
you can have the vmf for the latest stuff if you want, PM me if you do, I'll upload it at some point...
It's starting to look bud! I can't wait to see the idea fully implemented into the map. The only thing that really doesn't appeal to me are the brush-based letters. Then again it is pretty damn hard to find model-based letters. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough? What texture are you planning to use for the floor interior if you don't mind me asking?
do us a favor and don't make brush-based lettering, use custom textures or something please
-ninja'd-
It's never gonna be used, otherwise. ...Damn Ninjas.
do us a favor and don't make brush-based lettering, use custom textures or something please
The problem I have with a texture is that it doesn't give it ant depth. Unless I made the sign look like specific letters were worn off then it would look sorta weird. Plus I suck at texturing

ew blender is terrible
At the moment you have two large blocks and a few small ones. You don't really have enough content to warrant it's own thread.

I can see this being a community project for some reason.
Not bad actually.
I don't want to ruin the day, but: http://www.zombiemaster.org/smf/index.php?topic=9579.0
