Did you make sure mat_fullbright was set to 0?

Not sure about grad though, it crashed when I set lightmap scale to 8. Then switched back to 16.
Post your compile log, perhaps we can find the problem. :p

Vrad is definitely crashing, raise lightmap to 32 or higher.
