Hey people I know how to make a button that turns lights on and off etc, what i am in need of it a light switch model, because in a civilian house, there is not a bright red button on the wall.. is there a generic light switch model? like the one in gmod, or is that custom.. I've searched all possibilities of names, but i cant see one, and i cant see valve leaving out such a neccessary model. Thanks.
Make it yourself, it's a good skill to learn to model and a light switch is a good easy start.
but i dont like modelling, it's hard.. xD and i don't have any modelling programs and i didn't like blender.

I've stopped being a dirty downloader. I got caught :P
Wings3d, at a stretch is good.

Btw, theres a decal texture for house lights switch. And also, i can prove you i can download over a hundred different models for free, legal, not being caught. Idk maybe u download illegaly or hack someone else model thats why

Just get XSI (?) Mod Tool and learn to use that. Small map assets, such as a light switch, are easy to practise with and will make you a stronger mapper because you become less reliant on other members of the community.
I use google sketchup and the value smd plugin.
I'll be nice and post a light switch model I have, hold on. [editline]02:39PM[/editline] http://filesmelt.com/downloader/switch.rar
Make a lever from a brush, and use that?
Cameleot. Thank you very much. Is XSI free? Google sketchup can be used? I might look into that, I was quite pro with it back in the days of D&T at school. Thanks everyone ;)
Xsi mod tool 6 is indeed free.
Ah right, ta ;) Do i need any addons for it to work with Source?
The SDK has a link to the Xsi site on the main window, I believe it comes with a pack of example files and an exporter.

Or just make a brush based switch?
Or just make a brush based switch?
You could always get really desperate and make a custom switch texture.
Saying I don't like modeling will not make you better. It's sucks like everything else when you first learn it, but the knowledge sinks in easier over time once you learn the fundamentals.

Mapping is SO simple, make it, add shit, compile, play, done. Modelling: make it, compile it, get the right textures, oh, textures are shitty, get new ones, put it in game, errors, too big, too small, textures wont show, like, 10 files associated with one model. It's like, aaaah whyy

Or create something ur own in hammer i don't see why you would need a "light switch model". If you use the one from hl2 u have to actually create the buttons for ur self u do that with the tools/toolsnodraw texture(will be invisible ingame) and create tiny buttons in front of the model.
Just take the one from gmod then.
Why not just make two light switch textures, on func_wall_toggle and switch between them when the light is on or off?
