I've tried to get this to work, but it simply wont work...
I cant find any tutorials on this for EP-2
I did find tutorials for Counter Strike Source i follow them PRECIECLY (in EP-2) but it does not work
is there any differances betwen Ep-2 color correction and the other?
Ive never used color correction before so I don't know when it works except for what it says in the tutorials
Well if you have the color_correction entity in your map and its set to everywhere, you should just be able to type in color_correct_ui (I think that's the console command) and it will open a User interface where you can adjust the light levels in your map. If the user interface is open, click at the bottom the word new. Then play around with the tools. (That is what I did anyways. :v:)
Or you can check up on valve's wiki
http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Color_correction
yeah, I got that far
it's when I came to the "play around with the tools" part
I click new and choose one of the options.
I then change the parameters but nothing in game changes.
I change the "levels" thing but NOTHING hapens

On the main UI thing that pops up did you make sure that both the check boxes were checked on the top of it?

"Enable" and "Enable Entities" boxes.
yes, they are ticked
it said so in the tutorial...
Enable colour correction in ep2 in graphics options.
The color correction file search starts from the base of whatever mod you're trying to correct.
So, you're trying to color correct a map in Ep2. First, place a color_correction in your map. Make sure it's set so that the color correction works in your entire map, and not just in the region you're placing it.
Set the filename to whatever you want to call the color correction. Like... examplecorrection. No filetype specified.
Now, compile your map and open up the console. Enter sv_cheats 1 and then colorcorrectionui. If all is well, a color correction should open up. Enter a random correction module and save the file, naming it examplecorrection.
Save it in C:/Program Files/Steam/Steamapps/<Steam Name>/half-life 2 episode 2/ep2.
Then it really should work. I've worked with color correction, and mine worked just fine.

I folowed this to the exact up untill "Enter a random correction module and save the file"
That's where i get lost.
I aded a "Curves" thing made one point in the middle and lifted it up a little bit, this should make bright contrasts even brighter but the only thing that changes is the "lookup view"
Is it Suposed to change the "ingame-view", like what you see in game?
or am I missing something?
I thought you needed to save the settings and restart the map before the changes show.
[editline]08:02PM[/editline]
Or was it that you needed to save the lookup table and load it into the color_correction-entity?
This may not be what you're looking for, but $lightwarptexture can implement color corection on the texture level (its a vmt setting)
http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/$lightwarptexture
It can be used for a lot of stuff, but basically you create 256x16 gradiant range of the color correction range you'd like and put it in the folder with the textures that you want to implement color correction or shading on, and add it to the textures vmt
e.g
"$lightwarptexture" "materials/textures/example_lightwarp"
Of course the gradient needs to be converted to vtf, and also in order for this to work properly the texture in question needs a bumpmap.
I may be wrong, as I've only recently been experimenting with it, but thats what it appears to do.
Try mat_colourcorrection 1 in the console it may be that you graphics card cant support it:
Other wise here is the guide I use for it.

I have no real idea of what you guys have already said and haven't said, so I'll take it from the start.
I have worked with color correction for a while now and this is how I do it:
First add a color_correction in your map set the falloff start distance and end distance to -1 and tick master in flags. Enter lookup table filename to be> materials/correction/mycolorcorrection.raw (.raw is the extension for color correction and it must be entered!)
Now enter tools in EP2 and enter colorcorrectionui, tick the enabled box (enable entities doesn't have to be ticked). Press new and choose the Color one, play around with the settings and add curves, levels and HSV if you want to. Now select all of them in the list (by holding down ctrl and press on them with left mouse button, I dunno if you have to do this but I do it). Press save as and save it as "mycolorcorrection" without the quotes.
Also make sure that you have "mycolorcorrection.raw" in EP2>materials>correction or else it won't work.
It should work now, if it doesn't you have done something wrong.

I open up the colorcorrectionui Tick "Enabled"
I then press "New"
I name it "test" and choose "Color balance tool"
Now, this is where I dont understand..
A new window opens with some slides options & stuff.
when I change these values are they supposed to show up directly in game????

Well, no, in tools mode you can load up your map by typing "map [mapname]" in the console, and your map will now show in the engine viewport, from there you can see all the changes you are doing with the sliders. (if you have problems with steam verification when you try to load your map, type sv_lan 1 first)
Then follow my steps.
I have the map open, of course
but it's not Working
I change the sliders but NOTHING happens!
Make sure you have the distance on the color_correction entity set to -1

They are -1
You also said that i should tick "master" in the flags tab. But in the Flags tab there are no such options.

Maybe that's only for L4D, then don't mind that.
Well I pointed out exactly how you should do. Why it doesn't work beats me...
Are you sure you are loading up the game in tools mode, then directly types in sv_lan 1 in the console then load up your map and then write colorcorrectionui?

what's "tools mode"?
Loading with the tool mode doesn't matter.
ok, I'm just gonna write down PRECICLEY what i'm doing so someone maybe can see where or what i'm doing wrong.
1: I place a "color_correction" entety in my map
2: I change those two options to -1 (
3: I compile my map with "Don't run map after compiling" unticked and with these additional paramaters: -console +sv_lan 1
4: When it's done compiling the game automatically runs the map. I press Escape to open the console and type: sv_cheats 1 then colorcorrectionui
5: two windows open "Lookup view" and "Color Correction Tools", I press "Resume Game" wich makes it takes away the console.
6: I tick "Enable" and press "New"
7: Another new window opens I choose "Curves tool" and name it "Test" I then press "Create"
8: the window closes and another window opens. This window had a "curves" thing strikingly similar to the one in Photoshop.
9: I make a point in the middle and move it upwards.
When I moved it upwards SHOULD this change what I see, in the "game" behind the windows?
cause... it doesn't.
Yes it should change the appearance of the game if you have it in the background. Use the color balance tool and balance it to blue, and see if it makes a difference, if not, there's something wrong.
Or you could try this: Make it all red, save it under the same name as you have entered in the color_correction entity, restart the game and load up the map, see if everything looks red.
nope, not working...
Yea, I had a similar problem when doing this in gmod. I ended up just flying around the map a bit then opened the menu again, and somehow that worked.
Also, EP2 is very weird when it comes to doing color correction. It ends up like doubling the effect you wanted, but that's a totally different topic.
Registered just to post this.
I've got a shitty old computer and card (it's dx9 but it barks when trying to use it). I can't use the color correction in dx8, moving the sliders doesn't work. It took me a while to figure out that color correction only worked on dx9.
Paimail, try mat_dxlevel 90 and mat_colorcorrection 1 then the sliders should work.
You can enable cc in dx8 it by doing mat_colorcorrection 1 but the box'll be greyed out in the options and will revert back to disabled anyways.

I mat_dxlevel 90 .
THANKS ALOT!
Really THANKS It worked!!!!
I remember messing with Direct-X in Source some time ago
Thanks again!
