• How do I Train Track?
    4 replies, posted
So I really want to make some nice smooth train tracks, and i can't for the life of me figure out how people get their little segments of track so precise. Like i understand that turns are made up of a bunch of little world brushes and all, but i don't see how they can get them to turn exactly 90 degrees. These train tracks, by the way, will be used for building in garrys mod, so they have to be a specific width and height. I have that down, and i can make straight tracks, but the turns get me. Any ideas?
It's important to know not only how to train a track, but what to train it to do. Tracks have no sense of correct behavior, so they offer a million things you could correct; which should you address? Life tosses up myriad challenges to a track's sense of obedience, and the more it's trained to understand, the happier you both will be. Finally, for fun and practical benefit, we'll cover a few basic tricks you can teach your track. They're a wonderful way to bond with your track and to entertain the both of you, while teaching it how to behave and react to your commands. Everybody wins! Alternatively, use the arch tool. Select the new brush tool and in the panel on the bottom-right side of the screen, you'll find a drop down menu that allows you to change from the default block brushes, to arches, among various other shapes like spheres and cylinders. Yeah, i was trying the arch tool, except i couldn't figure out how to get it to work the way i want. Every time i try to make an arch, i can get one side of the train track looking like i want to, but creating the other side to match exactly just doesn't work. :/
You're probably copy-pasting the same track to the other side. Don't. Make a completely new arch. The inner curve piece will always be the smaller square arch creation, the outer curve piece will always be the larger square arch piece.
