So yeah, I'm not sure this is the right place for this and I apologize in advance if it isn't, but whenever I try to launch source sdk so I can use hammer to make maps, it states it is unavailable. So when I just bypassed it and directly launched the executable for hammer, things worked fine. That is until I attempted to select a world model for something, like for a door it would crash with no reason. Any suggestions? I'd appreciate some help, thanks. I am eager to get back to work on my mapping, I was working on a custom map for my server last when it failed.
Thanks.
What game config you using? The orangebox model browser can be retarded some times.
Also, try restarting steam and try to launch SDK?
Thank you, I appreciate someone responding, I believe last time I used it I was using an orangebox configuration, and I tried restarting Steam and using sdk. Any other ideas? Thanks again.
This sometimes happens to me, but only with custom models. Maybe its not installed correctly?
Hmmm, perhaps. I did try to put in a custom texture and material file I made, but I thought I deleted them. Also when I tried to uninstall source sdk, it appeared to take no action. I'm at a loss of what to do here, I appreciate your help. Thanks.

Remember, Google is your friend.
I am aware of that. And no I'm not using the -engine ep1 launch command. However I figured it would be best to come to facepunch, considering most of you are probably far more experienced in mapping then me. Plus, computers aren't as good as people at answering questions. Thanks again though. I'll try googling it now though, but I'll get back to you if I still can't figure it out.

Yeah, I'm not having much luck. Any ideas? Because I'm out, thanks. I'm really eager to get back to my mapping, and any help is appreciated.

Oh also, when I load it from the executable directly, and then a map I get a message; Failed to load the default scheme file. The map views may be missing some visual elements.
That help at all?
Verify Game Cache?
Have you tried restarting not just Steam, but your computer?

It's not designed to run without the sdk running at the same time, since from what I understand the sdk tells it where to look for models and materials, I should imagine a lack of this info is causing it to crash. Restarting the pc usually fixes the "game unavailable" error. Make sure steam is online mode, and you have verified the cache integrity of the sdk.
No, but now I get that error with gmod when I try to launch it. I'll try that though.

Awesome it's all good now, but uh on a side note, I've got the value on that prevents doors from being removed with the remover gun, but what's the value for preventing them being removed with the remover gun? Thanks.
I believe 0 is the value.
Well yeah, I know the value, just not the thing for the setting. Like gmod_allowphysgun.
You meant the variable? gmod_allowtoolgun or gmod_allowtool
Thank you so much! I appreciate that!
Neither of the values worked.
i had the problem for about a week. i defraged (simple) i reinstalled through deleteing folder, defraged again, changed compatibility (im running on vista idk about u) restarted steam. changed back compatibility. restarted comp. and it worked fine. sounds stupid i know. but it worked for me. if it dont work for you. i am truly sorry for makeing u do all that for nothing.
