Hello everyone,
I am currently co-directing a high quality HL2/Source machinima (Link to project is below)
http://www.machinima.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=28833
In case anyone is unaware of what machinima is, then here is a link explaining this relatively new film medium:

We are looking for a dedicated and talented mapper to assist us in this project. By this we mean someone who has a decent amount of experience who would be willing to provide maps in a prompt and professional manner.
If anyone is interested, then shoot me an email at jnovelpiece@yahoo.com, including a resume along with some screenshots of maps you have worked on (Or even better, the actual map files themselves).
Make me a map, give me proof you are good, get imaginary cake.
No where in the OP did he say they had to make good maps.
[editline]12:50AM[/editline]
Holy crap, that machinima look pretty goddamn badass.
Make me a map, give me proof you are good, get imaginary cake.
This actually appears to be a serious post... So I'd say the cake is not a lie.
...Do lots of machinima creators come around here asking mappers for help with their sub-par projects?
Well not a lot. Every few months we'll get one though
Well not a lot. Every few months we'll get one though
And 99% of them are horrible little kids, demanding that we make them maps for their really bad projects.
Why not make a bit of test footage on one of the stock maps to prove to us that this is a serious project?
Why not make a bit of test footage on one of the stock maps to prove to us that this is a serious project?
Screenshots and footage will be available later this week. However, if you look at project thread link in my op, I am sure you will find that this is a serious project. We have professional voice actors, visual effects artists, and a high quality music composer lending us their assistance.
I can understand anyone's hesitancy to work on this project considering the flood of ten year old's making awful "Idiots of GMod" ripoffs that seem to take up so much space on various machinima forums and youtube. Perhaps after I upload some test footage and screenshots, then some mappers might be interested in volunteering. If anyone has any questions regarding this project, then I would love to answer them.
Whats in it for me?
Whats in it for me?
Good question.
If this machinima turns out to be as good as lets say "Vae Victus" or "Shelf Life" (Which we're planning on making this project just as good, if not better *fingers crossed*), then wouldn't you be proud to say that you worked on it?
I think people being asked to put in that much effort would want to be paid.
As would professional voice-actors and composers.
I am pretty sure it's illegal to take a payment for a map. Otherwise, I am the kind of mapper who would do it for fun, because mapping is fun. Also what Novelpiece stated, to say that you made the map(s) for the machinima. Isn't that what we're doing all the time here on FP anyway? Showing off our work in hope for positive response and recognition? So would it matter if you made a serious mod, or a serious machinima?
I am pretty sure it's illegal to take a payment for a map.
What the hell? Why would it be illegal?
It is. Because you can't sell a map that's made with source sdk. You can however charge someone for the time you spent making the map.
What the hell? Why would it be illegal?
I don't know? Ask Valve? Also I said I am not sure, but I've read it somewhere here on FP.
Oh yeah, and what kind of maps would you be looking for? Big spacious outdoor maps, city maps, apartment maps...?

Good point.
However, if there are professional mappers here, then I feel like it would be insulting and amateurish to simply slap on a price tag on this project. If anyone is seriously considering working on this project, then I am sure we can find a mutual agreement on payment if that volunteer was indeed looking for payment.
Due to our extremely low budget, we cannot offer payment unless it is absolutely necessary. Most of the professional voice actors did not ask to be paid simply because they were excited about this project and wanted to be a part of it.
I should mention that the maps for this project are just redesigns of current Valve maps, so nothing is made from scratch.
Pay per hour for your work isn't illegal. Selling the map, is. So if I worked on a map, I'd want to be paid $2 an hour.
Good point.

You would still have to start the map from scratch.
You would still have to start the map from scratch.
Why? Why not use the example ones?

Someone spents time making a map. You give him some money in return for the effort it took.
Why not? It's non commercial, so...
If you ask someone to mow your lawn for a couple of bucks, will the fabricator of the lawn mower whine?
Think not
Would you mind showing showing some screen tests if you have any? Mappers who are good at what they do will often jump on projects as long as they know the director / project leader is experienced.

Not one to blow our own horn are we?
Not one to blow our own horn are we?
Something can be shit but still of a high quality.
Take the queen on England, for instance.
I might make it, but I just hate ppl who just join facepunch to ask for some crap which they will never make themselves.

I would have made it myself, but unfortunately, neither myself nor the co-director have a lot of map making experience. I was directed here because I was informed that facepunch is a helpful community with users that would be willing to assist us.
Hey I'd be pretty happy to help, but I'd need a concept or something. :raise:
I can't just make a map without some idea of what needs to be done.

Absolutely dude, thanks for the interest! If you want, you can hit up my email at jnovelpiece@yahoo.com. We can go over the project in greater detail and if you decide that you are still interested, then great!
What map theme do you need exactly?
