About Oaksgrove
Welcome one and all to the small, isolated Town of Oaksgrove. Founded in 1912 by a group of Mountaineers, the small hunting Settlement soon became a self sufficient and tightly Knit community. Isolated from most of the world by the same thick woods and Natural Resources that keep them alive, Oaksgrove is a beautiful, peacful town that suffers from only one conflict: As technology advances around them the town becomes stuck in a fissure between historical beauty and Modernized Amenities.

It's iffy, Kind of block but it looks like it has potential.
It's blocky, and there are some other problems.
BUT, I like it!
Good job :D
I like the skybox, personally, these kinds of maps arnt my thing, but I agree, it has potential.
Edit: From the screenshots I mean, going to DL it and try it out now just to make sure the map is what It appears to be.
Thanks For The Comments everyone.
I'm Not really sure after this release if I will be continuing Oaksgrove, But in the case i do I will do more to make it less blocky and have more Detail.
I tried to make the map fit for a more serious style of Role playing with rent/sale signs and some more interaction then the previous version, but it could be used for other purposes (such as comics or etc.) as well.
You gotta learn how to make nice displacement, and the cliff's around the town is extemely repetive.
And the houses is like said, blocky.
But the concept of the map looks good, but it could use some more work. The skybox looks nice.
I'm not a mapping pro but I like it :)
Not bad at ALL for a second map! And as others have said, yes there are a few things that have yet to be ironed out, but when we playtested, it was a lot of fun and a great layout too. I'm not sure if I'm the only one who finds this to be a HUGE improvement from what you've done in the past. Great job!
The fence material is horrid.
The fence material is horrid.
I originally had a Custom Fence material i got off of FPSbanana, but when i ran the map in garrysmod the fence would end up being non transparent (looked like a white wall with a fence pasted on it) so i just went back to a non custom one.

Locate the .vmt of the custom fence material and see if it includes this line:
$translucent 1
If it doesn't say it exactly like that (or doesn't display it at all), then paste it in.
If that doesn't work, you'd have to use VTFedit and get it into Photoshop as a Targa file and do Alpha channel stuff on it, then put it back into VTF format. Though I'm not sure if you know how to do that :P
The skybox is nice, but the map itself is kinda blocky and those custom signs are horrible.
Forgot to reply again last night, yeah the map isn't my kind of thing, but it's nice, I'd much rather play on this than Downtown.
Lagged me to hell though, due in part to the map and mostly my computer though so I won't fault it there.
I agree with most the people above. Blocky, but it has potential. And a thing that stuck out awfully is the displacement for the graveyard. You may want to tone that down a bit =D
nice
Nice work thought could use some work, I don't understand why a town has a gate like that( are they charging people to get in?) I think you should work on making building on main street( court, police and homes) look more old and historic to go with your story. Also maybe add some forested areas with a stream and a cave/ or mine.
Judging from screenshots (i'm on linux atm), it definetly has potential. I don't really like the displacements around the horse statue, just use a light noise next time. Also, the streetside diner? really?
Please, de-blockify it. It has great potential to be one of the few medium-sized real life roleplay maps.
This is nice, but try making some of the displacements less pointy.
Doesn't look too great to be honest... But congrats on the SkyBox
cute map ^^
Oh Noes! A Zombie Post!

Make another version , this time try to thin up bulky walls and roofs , and make them a bit more detailed. I liked the skybox, though.
!!!

^NOT what a bridge crane is for :mmmhmm:
would have been 100 times better if the signs wern't made in paint.
It's blocky, but it looks really awesome. Fix the blockiness and this will be really great RP map.
Textures aren't really the strong point of the map, and it's blocky, but the whole thing is pretty amazing. The skybox is awesome.

Yeah i know but no other props fitted what i intended to make for the cargo elevator type machine to carry down the wood so i used it instead :P
Thanks for all the criticism on this guys. Someday i plan on making a version 3, a smaller version with less blocky structures and some better displacements/optimization.
