• Using hammer without CS:S

Is there any way for my buddy to use Hammer without owning CS:S? Could I send him a copy of the Hammer files and will he be able to use it? He doesn't need textures or entity files or compiling. He just needs to be able to make some structures for our project. Thanks in advance, Jack
You can use the Half life one go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life 2\bin
You need to own any source game iirc
Do you own Garry's Mod? Go to: \Steam\steamapps\common\Garry's Mod\bin\hammer.exe and there you go!
He could just get TF2 for free which has hammer in its files.
Or he could install the Source SDK Base 2013 which if I'm not mistaken requires no Source game ownership and has Hammer.
Thank you guys. I already got him to install http://sledge-editor.com/ and works just fine for what we're doing!
Sledge is awesome, but it's pretty buggy and doesn't have full Source support yet. Glad it's workin' for ya, though!

Sledge's Source support is planned, and it already fully reads and writes VMFs and doesn't have decimal loss. I'd still recommend Hammer for now, but having used Sledge a fair amount, it'll definitely be a good replacement later on.
