costum texture help

I made a map whit hammer to test costum texture's but when I play the map I can't se the texture.

Can you apply it to brushes in Hammer and see it OK in that?

Can you please elaborate. Did you apply the texture to a brush like above? Is it black? Is it purple checkered? Is it not in the material browser?
