• Valves archive for half-Life mapping?

Hey anyone know if they ever replaced valve-erc, or if they hate hl1 modders and decided to get rid of a huge half-life mapping wiki(sorta). I cant find any help on goldsource mapping on VDC. Its pretty much straight forward but I hate having to bother Dario Caselli(Valve Level designer) for help on hl1 mapping.

Why do I get the impression you made this thread to partly boast about you knowing a level designer.
Why do I get the impression you made this thread to partly boast about you knowing a level designer.
I am just wondering If they completly killed Valve-ERC or if its just moved. Are you going to help or complain. Also I am the level designer, I am not boasting about some random guy on the know.
Ok...is this the sort of thing you were looking for? http://www.archive.org/ It's archived billions of web pages throughout the years. If not, then what are you looking for, coz it sounded like tutorials to me.
-snip-
I take it they shut it down permently, stupid valve doesent care jack shit about HL modders.
Well hl1 was released in 1998, so what do you expect?
Well hl1 was released in 1998, so what do you expect?
Why would they completly remove it.
Because it was released in 1998...?
And because source is out, why would you want to map for HL1 when you could map for EP2/L4D? (going by engine date)
And because source is out, why would you want to map for HL1 when you could map for EP2/L4D? (going by engine date)
Because Gold Source is fun to map in. I dont know why they would remove helpful articles that took them a long time to make, They should have just posted them on VDC. Whatever Valve.
I take it they shut it down permently, stupid valve doesent care jack shit about HL modders.
I agree...damn valve. We never wanted dynamic lighting, physics or water reflections anyway.
I agree...damn valve. We never wanted dynamic lighting, physics or water reflections anyway.
Thats the spirit. even though Sources lighting fails, But I just like to make HL maps sometimes and it would be nice of em if they dident take it down.

While there is merit to sticking with something for a very long time, even I think 12 years is a little bit too long to hold onto something like this. How much free time do you have anyway that you can "just like to make HL maps sometimes" anyway? I mean seriously it takes a long time to do a decent map. Sure you can rush something, but then it ends up sucking and no one likes to play it. Except lila panic; I don't know how that works though. Maybe it was easier on HL1 or something...

I dont know, I just still love making maps for Half_life, been doing it since 04.
Not what I was asking for but thanks for the worldcraft tutorials.... Worldcraft = Hammers predocesor.
Worldcraft is older than dirt and shouldn't be used for HL1 mapping. WC 3.3 has some nasty crashbugs that were never fixed, among other quirks. Hammer 3.4/3.5 is what you should be using for HL1 mapping, along with the ZHLT 3.4 compile tools. The Valve-ERC was shut down years ago, the final entry in the news told everyone to migrate over to the developer.valvesoftware.com wiki.
I dont know, I just still love making maps for Half_life, been doing it since 04.
Wait how could you have been making maps from 2004 when your steam account is from 2007?
Wait how could you have been making maps from 2004 when your steam account is from 2007?
You don't need steam for Half Life 1.
Wait how could you have been making maps from 2004 when your steam account is from 2007?
Half-Life non-steam? Stupid? Havent you ever played it from the CD, WON Half-Life.

VERC was removed due to lack of use. It was reformed as the VDC and the articles were never rewritten. Sorry, but HL1 is all but dead.
Wait how could you have been making maps from 2004 when your steam account is from 2007?
Mine says 07 but I know well on I've had an account since 2005. :colbert: [editline]10:52PM[/editline]
VERC was removed due to lack of use.
