The update to sources SDK tools was the worst move valve has done this year

Hammer loves to keep crashing every time I search something new in the prop selection window.
as well at other inconvenient times where it crashes out of no where

Is anyone else having problems wit the sdk tools?

Do you have any custom models which you are selecting in the model viewer? Some custom models you can download do not work in the model viewer and cause it to instantly crash.
