I do every now and then. Just if I forget to switch it back.
Mostly use the expert though.

You're fast! I just hit the "post" button.
Normal all the time. I don't have a lot of technical know-how so I don't mess with stuff I don't understand.
Expert on maps being released. But usually when testing a new function I use normal.
I use expert for VRAD options, and glview.
Aside from that, I usually compile on normal.
Depends what I'm trying to accomplish with it.
For just test runs? Normal option. For screenshots and releases? Expert configurations. I'm sure a lot of people would agree with me here.
I use expert sometimes, but other times, I just use normal for the most part.
Normal for most of them, I switch to expert if I want to use -staticproppolys and -staticproplighting on VRAD though, as well as for final compiles.
I just keep it on normal. If I want to use any other options, I just use a batch file or command line.
I use both. Normal for quick compiles to test things, expert for if I want to free up a core for something while it compiles/extra VRad parameters etc.
Normal, produces nice enough results. If I was actually releasing a map I'd use expert.
I'm mildly suprised, I mean, I always use the expert menu because I can't be bothered to switch back to normal, as well as I can actually modify how it compiles at will.

Never thought that HiddenMyst or Metallics used the "Normal" menu. ._.

Normal always seems quicker for me. Perhaps I have too many configs set up and checking what each one is doing is time consuming, where as when I throw VRad to normal and vvis to fast for a quick lighting check I know exactly what I'm getting.
I just have it stuck on Default, I barely look at it and tap F9 and Enter.

Eh, but what if I don't want to wait for Vrad because I'm only testing some I/O? I have configs for HDR, non HDR, final, final HDR, fast vvis, and all of the previous using only 3 cores. It's an arse pain to sort through.
Then look at it and uncheck the "Light_exe" box?
I aways use Expert. Mainly because of custom compile configs.
Yay!
Then look at it and uncheck the "Light_exe" box?
but what if I only want a normal light compile?
Too much faff. Normal mode suits me fine for this.
-Idiot snip-
I don't even use the compile menu. I use a batch compiler.
N is for normal!
Normal is for Newbie! :v:

This newbie has been mapping since Goldsrc then.

Seriously, I doubt half of you actually use expert for any reason other than to sound cool.
I always use Expert mode. Added the -low parameter to vvis and vrad so I can still use my computer during map compiling (without having much effect on the compile time itself).
The only time I use expert mode is for glview and for a final map compile. Normal is fine for everything else I do.

E is for Expert!
E is for excrement! (AKA: Shit.)
I can play this game too...
I just use VBCT rather than any hammer compile menus
Question:
I'm trying to fire more light bounces with VRAD, so I've put in -bounce 100, for 100 maximum bounces, and it's only pumping out 26 of them. Is there any way I can force Hammer to fire all 100 bounces?
Maybe its because vrad doesn't need to bounce 100 times.
I've had it bounce over 100 times for me when I did that, it was for a merge of red green blue spotlights.
