• Map Theme Idea

I'm making a GMod building map, but I don't know what to theme it after. Any suggestions?
A squid zoo. Chances are, people already have a million gmod building maps, of all kinds of themes. Try making something off the wall.

Try something unique. Heck, I once made a building/fighting map set in ancient temples in the middle of a vast desert. That just so happened to be located between Gabe's butt cheeks.
If you havn't got the imagination to think of a theme for a map you might have difficulty making 1 to any kind of standard but a few to think of. Building site complete with phx compatible scaffolding/frame work and train tracks. The surface of a star destroyer complete with "trenches" and hangers. A huge multilevel flatgrass with several layers with a huge shafts going to the bottom each level getting progessively darker (if you are good with lighting) Generally try to have flat surfaces so when people spawn props they won't get stuck in the ground. Have interesting lighting, fullbright will just make people hate you. If you are going to include features like lifts and train tracks make sure they are compatible with phx and other popular model packs. Think about optimization right from the beginning. The multilevel flatgrass shaft could have area portals across it so from the top the lower levels are not visible important in large build maps as people wil be using lots of (potentially high detail) models.
