• 2019 II (Mirror's Edge look-a-like)

I'm building a followup L4D2 campaign to my popular 2019 (link: http://www.l4dmaps.com/details.php?file=5948) It's based off of Mirror's Edge and I'm incorporating even more elements from it in part II. I would like some critique as my progress goes along. Be advised that I'm semi-new to the Source Engine. These maps are purely in conceptual stage, so I need grading on the lighting and brushwork. Lovely, did you rip the textures your self? If not, I would love to know where you got them.
Lovely, did you rip the textures your self? If not, I would love to know where you got them.
Yes I did actually. All of the textures seen are either ripped from the game or custom ones a friend made for 2019 a few years ago. Some of the ripped ones are piss-poor quality but others are great. I actually didn't rip the shit, I took pictures of the ground and stuff using FRAPS and then edited the pictures in photoshop into usable textures :v: Edit: Well actually the floor texture in the office map is from the Abstraction map on garrysmod.org but it's placeholder until I can find something more suitable.
Damn, I wanted to download them :v: Guess I gotta go get them my self. Oh and the props in the third pic seem awfully straight, maybe rotate them a bit to make it look like they were tossed around?
Jewish trees
Jewish trees
I'm not Jewish myself. I literally designed that one day and i figured out that it resembles the jewish star. Anyhow, that'll probably stay.
Brighter! Brighter!
I don't know why but this looks extremely terrible. The lighting won't do what I want (I need to be a bright sunset) and the foliage looks too big but I can't find any other foliage packs that fit. Could I get some help?
Some light_spot entities with the same colour as the light_environment, or maybe have some light_spots on the side of the building lighting the area. Also if I recall correctly, all of the foliage in Mirror's Edge was white.

I've been trying to find one, but can't, and I can't model either. I'm also sure the OP doesn't know how to model, because he asked if there were other models more suited for him.

And yeah all the foliage was white but it's been proven that they can't be ripped from the game neither is there a pack out there with white foliage.
You know how to make materials, I'm sure it's not hard to edit the foliage's material to white.
You know how to make materials, I'm sure it's not hard to edit the foliage's material to white.
Editing foliage certainly can't be the same as character reskins.
Well if the foliage is a model then it should have a material. You just have to find where it is, and modify it.
Editing foliage certainly can't be the same as character reskins.
Want to bet. [editline]You're betting anyways[/editline] in photoshop: desaturate adjust levels save, convert to vtf.
Want to bet.
I meant in the context that the material itself can't be something I can simply apply a whitewash filter over. Seriously do you think I'm stupid? I know every model has to have a material. edit: okay then. but you didn't need to be challenging over it.
I just turned most of the foliage bushes and shrubs into the white style, was actually quite easy. I can make a mini-tutorial if you want.

I don't have any white foliage for my map, and, well, It wouldn't make sense to not have any, since it's a Mirror's Edge inspired map too.
Here, if you can actually fucking see anything...

Yeah pretty much, needs a little more adjusting though.
Turns out Left 4 Dead 2 uses a single texture for over five foliage models. Sigh. But white foliage! And I found a few bush models that aren't textures slapped together either.

Thanks firegod!
Hiyougami (who made gm_freecity) has some very nice tutorials on hdr and light reflectivity: Reflectivity: HDR Tonemaps
In Mirror's edge, only one primary tone would be utilized in a space, and most of the interesting colors came as a result of tinted lighting.
-snip-
Ah, but doesn't that only work for the individual person? Like, If I were to do this for a Garry's Mod map, wouldn't only I see it, and/or would it look normal or perma-reskin the foliage for anyone who downloads it too?

If it's a reskin, you can just rename it. (ie change smallbush_01.mdl to smallbush_01_bw.mdl and smallbush_01.vtf to smallbush_01_bw.vtf)

Perfect, that's exactly what I've been looking for for about the past few months.
