I made a new thread for this map because the old one was dead and went to shit when I decided to post it without content. So here is the map with a decent amount progress. There is more detail than shown in the picture, but atm im only showing the brushwork. I will be adding a hopefully nice looking 3d skybox sometime soon. Ideas for the map, and suggestions to fix anything I did not already list would be awesome. Still don't like the capital building. Look up city hall pictures and go from there a bit. The large red building has potential but maybe make the shape involve more of the building and add some more details to it.
I like the progression pictures but I think you would have done better with some more planning and better execution. I suggest starting with the center road square that you did. Then work up buildings around that first. Draw on paper how you wanted that and what it should generally look like. When you are done with that town square, then you start branching out. Work on one branch, get the general structures, detail them, then move to another branch. You will notice it will be done in such a short time. I like it though. Has good potential.
Fixed up the lighting a bit today, and added a bunch of detail to the insides, nothing screenshot worthy. Ill add some new content tomorrow.

Maybe light your map so the entry to the capital is highlighted.

Your Capital doesn't look important enough. At the moment it looks (height wise) the same as a mall or a small museum. IT needs to be grander and larger. I recommend expanding it into the skybox so it is visible over the entire map. Rather like the citadel in hl2 it will let players orientate themselves from it and at the same time make a bold statement. "this is the most important building in the city".

"this is the most important building in the city".[/QUOTE] In a way that make sense, but after hearing complaints that it was to big from most of the people I asked I made it smaller. And on another note its not as significant as everybody is making it sound. The map will still be used on a build server so I doubt all that much time will be spent in one building. I should of called it town hall or something. Maybe ill try making it big regardless, its just my take on it. Another Idea I had was to put 2 huge towers behind it in the 3d skybox when I implement it. I changed alot last night but don't have time to compile for a screenshot right now.

Not sure if its totally applicable here but try to match the lighting in the map with the lighting people want. In my opinion the current lighting seems too "end of the day" time to relax. You've just escaped city 17, killed the chopper, jumped off the dam and now its time to go and rest the night in elis lab. Not the best feeling you want to create in an rp map. People need to feel like they can stay there for a while. A summery, bright lit map will feel like the middle of day, people will associate it with free time and relaxing in the sun. People might spend 5 or 6 hours enjoying the map and might not notice that the mid day has passed. Also high light levels keep people awake which will let them play the map for longer. It may seem manipulative but if you want a map to be successful people are going to have to want to play it over other maps, having weather which helps people play won't make the map but it will help expose the players to the other features for longer. Alternatively you could go for nightime of grey depending if you want an oppressive atmosphere. What I just said might be utter crap, since I have only released 1 unsuccessful rp map years ago, but colour theory for lighting is important and the light environment is the biggest light of them all.
I personally love the look of that capital. It's always good to get creative, most people for some reason feel obligated to mimic generic architecture. Also i really like sunsets. The sunset in this map adds a very relaxed feel to the map, which seems more inviting. It gives off a very welcoming map, contrary to the above post. Me among most others associate mid-daylight with stress, and the fast paced lifestyle, or being at work/school. Evening time is when you get home and finally have time to enjoy yourself. You don't want a stressful map, :P, plus mid-day and overcast maps are overrated, that's all you ever see.
Added the airport last night, also started a little sewage deposit (needs some work on lighting and detail, possible become bigger). I will probably make it bigger and make it lead to an opening to infiltrate the military base. [QUOTE][IMG]http://i.imgur.com/0tC9x.jpg[/IMG][/QUOTE]
I dont have any content to post other than hammer screenshots, but the map is almost done.I might post one or 2 more screenshots, but ill will take a video of it tomorrow, then fix anything that people don't like, and will release the map.
