G'day everyone, so I've come across something really strange to me as I've never experienced this before. (I've been mapping for about a year now)
So I've been working on this map for some time now; I've had to reformat my computer so I saved my hammer files etc and pasted them into my new
install of Windows 7. Everything was going fine and I decided to open up my map and do some touch ups. (Its a WIP at the moment)
After I'd scoured around I decided to compile and see if everything was up to scratch...it wasnt.
This is how its meant to be and how its viewed in hammer

Sorry if this is a beginner mistake, eh.
You forgot lights
Or compile without vrad and see if it works again
Compiling without vrad turned up with no success, thanks for the help though
you need to put actual light entities somewhere that they will cast light on the stairs
He's not talking about lighting, he's talking about the fact there's a brush over the stairs where there shouldn't be one. Perhaps you have that brush in a hidden visgroup?
Recreate the stairs and the connecting second floor, and don't use the vertex editing tool. for the stairs make one block (and the second decorative block you have which would be placed on top), then copy it all the way downward. For the floor, just use the clip tool, or use multiple blocks to create the opening. If you get different results, be sure to post!
