Defend will be an addon for Alien Swarm. The focus of the addon is a single level in which the four marines must defend a bunker for six minutes against waves of Swarm until evac arrives, in which they must leave the bunker across a catwalk to the ship before a nuke goes off. Pretty simple. I'm mostly doing this so I can find out how to use the features in Alien Swarm. Any comments and ideas are welcome. Also hoping no one minds this being here since there isn't a place for alien swarm stuff yet. This is a good idea for a gamemode, I might try something like this.

Well the biggest reason for this map was so I can figure everything out before I do a really nice full addon, and because my friend asked me to make this.
I'm actually working on a 5 stage survival map right now. Hopefully we'll get a big series of survival maps going. (Of course, mine is pretty undetailed and blocky, being a proof of concept and all.) There are 5 stages. 00-30 Drones 30-50 +Mortar 50-90 +HMortar +Harvester 90-120 +Uberdrone 120-X Queen stage, once dead it will open the door to the exit. All the items are scattered around the map in the order of "Higher power = Further distance", to stop players from camping in one place forever, and to stop the game getting boring too fast. There are a couple of buildings, and the entire place has 3 levels of elevation.
Well this is just a single map, 50% going places, 50% defending.
Sounds great. Just make sure your level design is good so that it won't be easy for sentry guns to do all the work.

It is no where near done and the level has no real 'end', you'll just have to wait for the nuke to kill you if you get past the door. Oh and you can play this with more then just yourself if you get others to download it, since it's an addon. Just put it in your addon folder and select it from the server menu thing.
what's the best way to get the first person effect? I heard that if you do some console mumbo jumbo you can get the w key to walk in the direction you're aiming.

You can only do it with cheats and I had a typo; asw_controls 0 instead.
Blargh, I've been doing so much planning for my map, trying to get a balance of fun-hard. It's turning out pretty well, but I keep getting a little bit of sentry camping going on, I'll probably extend the times up to 5-10 minutes instead.
This map requires the use of Starship Trooper's Klendathu Drop.
It seems like a great idea but the execution could use a bit of work. Mainly, I think the alien swarms should be coming from outside of the building. Kind of like a base defense. Make the spawns different so players will have to defend multiple areas. If you're inclined to, you can even setup maybe a light or a alert when you're about to trigger a swarm coming from a certain direction in order to give the squad a short amount of time to move out and cover and defend another area. (Similar to the Episode 2 Antlion Turret Defense). Because of this idea there really shouldn't be too many Sentry Guns. They should make use of the ability to move the sentries around.

new alpha is up this one is winnable, but you have to stand at the end of the bridge, don't go past it, the area past that isn't finished and was for some other bullshit tests.
Aw man, I was working on a whole campaign that had survival based around a couple chapters :saddowns: Oh well, I will still complete it but was hoping to be the first to release a survival campaign.
I dunno, it looks way too favored for the Marines.

A human skin (without the suits) would be so awesome, someone should totally do that. OT: Nice map, looking forward to improvements.
