How do I add textures to Valve Hammer Editor. I don't know how. I got some textures and tried adding it but I get the folders and I go to the textures and see them all but when I click on one there's nothing in it. If you know how to add textures to Valve Hammer Editor please tell me. Step by step please starting from the download to the texture adding.

Wait, explain yourself more clearly: do you need help adding preexisting textures to brushes, or do you need help adding custom textures to hammer?
I could help you with both, but be more specific please.
I don't think anyone would need to add things that already exist, he most probably wants to know how to add custom textures.

I just started and I need to add textures to hammer here's the texture download I got http://garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=17881
(If by custom you mean ones I download then yes)
1. Download the texture package and uncompress if necessary.
2. Extract/place all of the files into the proper folder(s). (Everything goes somewhere under the materials folder for the game whose Hammer configuration you are using.)
3. Restart Hammer.

I don't see what you mean I downloaded it extracted it restarted hammer and nothing happened.
Someone probably told you how to MAKE custom textures. Follow Tarenteller's instructions, he's the overlord.
Edit:
Hold on ill show you which folder to put it in.

Programfiles/steam/steamapps/username/halflife2episode2/hl2/materials

I keep hearing about this half-life stuff. I'm doing it for g-mod where do I extract it when that's the condition?
Not In Gmod. That won't do anything, follow my directory.
EDIT: Doesn't matter if it's for gmod, it matters what engine you're doing it for.
LAST EDIT:
I assume you're doing this in the ep2 engine, tell me if I'm wrong and I will correct the directory.

There is no materials folder in my half-life 2

make one
make one
Really I can do that?
Yeah, why not? That's what I did when I asked a similar question, and it works fine.

Ok I made one now I just follow your steps?
Yes, put all the textures into that folder.
It SHOULD work. I could be mixing it up with getting the textures to show in game when you use them (which you needed to do anyways, so it kills one flying blanket with a bolt gun.

Alright I'm not getting what to do now. Do I restart hammer? And when I click add texture what do I do?
What does the readme say? It should have instructions on where to put the files.

This is the read-me for the textures I downloaded
Hello, All the textures in this pack were taken by me, and converted by me.
AND i made all the vmt's so they show up in hammers texture browser. :D took me
about 1 hour to take pics, and get them ready for hammer.
Put Atom-Textures folder in C:\Program Files\Steam\steam-apps\[USER-NAME]\counter-strike source\cstrike\materials
when you open up hammer with css it will show up on texture browser.
you can probably put this in hl2 materials folder or any other game you use for hammer.
b-t-w: there's 30 textures in this pack.
Place the AtomTextures folder in "...\half-life 2\hl2\materials\", then restart Hammer.
Place the AtomTextures folder in "...\half-life 2\hl2\materials\", then restart Hammer.
Did that nothing happened.
Are you using the Half-Life 2 Hammer configuration?
Are you using the Half-Life 2 Hammer configuration?
No I typed garrys-mod
EDIT: Ok I typed in half-life 2. Now what do I do?
Place the AtomTextures folder in "...\garrysmod\garrysmod\materials\", then restart Hammer.

Now open the material browser and look?

You mean go to add textures then browse?
Indeed.
Indeed.
Ok but what do I do when the folder browser pops-up. I usually go to the folder of textures get to it and don't know what to do.
Filter for "atom". The textures should appear.
