I'm working on about 5 or 6 maps all using dev textures (Not just the grey and orange ones) i've all ready made 2 of them and here is the link to garrysmod.org 1.http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=107147 2.http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=107857 [editline]01:09PM[/editline] *Update* I would also like any ideas for a new dev map. Please reply and give me some ideas
You can do really cool things with dev textures, but this could use some more effort.
how about a seaside town?
Great...just what we need. More boring plain maps with no detail because they are "Dev Textured"

Or at least a mix of dev and normal.
You stuck your name in the map. With brushes. Not worth downloading or releasing. If you are going to use dev textures in your map, at least treat it like a normal map, then think about design before slapping them on, jesus christ.
Dev textures should mainly be used when you are just creating the basic layout for your map, or you are stumped at what the actual texture should be.
Dev textures should mainly be used when you are just creating the basic layout for your map, or you are stumped at what the actual texture should be.
I have seen some good dev textured maps. Dev textures can make architectural maps looks damn cool.
What is with the misconception that dev textures lack detail. If anything dev texture maps require more detail in brushwork. http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=836366 if you call this a shitty map then you need to actually try to map yourself.

Look at the gun game maps for example.
Because on the whole, dev textures are used as an excuse for poor mapping. I like to think that dev textured gungame maps are attempts at focusing on good level design and gameplay, as opposed to visuals.
how about a seaside town?
Sounds like a good idea thanks! [editline]07:43PM[/editline] To everyone that says all this sucks or dev textures suck I've got one question: HAVE YOU EVER MAPPED?! If you have, then I think the dev textures are an opinion, some ppl like it others think it's ok and some hate it. I'm sry if a made you vommit with this map :P

It does not matter if someone has mapped or not, and most of the people have have commented that they don't like dev textures on blocky things are mappers themselves.

This being tbe mapping section I would imagine most people here are, indeed, mappers. Your map isn't horrible but it's not great either. Just keep trying and you'll improve.
You need more detail, and you should do more with the lighting. Looks a bit bland right now. I like some dev maps, but only if they have interesting architecture and look nice.
If you're going to do a dev map, then do something unique with it, like an animated wave effect: [img_thumb]http://img.mystworks.net/1282317096.jpg[/img_thumb]

I makes you look more respectable and gives us a (slightly) better idea of what you could be with practice.
I didn't say that if someone has not mapped before they have no idea what they are talking about. However, I think that if you have mapped before, your opinions about dev textures will be different. I'm sorry that you think my map is bad, but I feel the need to insult you now, you retard. I made this map because I was bored, and I have not used any tutorials, just learning from my own mistakes. Thank you for your criticism of my work.
Suck it up and take the feedback and improve your mapping. My respect for you as a mapper has now dropped into the minus numbers.

Also, there's nothing wrong with using a tutorial for something you don't know how to do. A good tutorial is usually much more useful than Valve's wiki to learn what an entity does, and trying things out on your own may be better for you to learn, but it definitely takes longer.

This is really good for new mappers and old mappers alike. I want to know what the entity does, not an opinion.

You get the raw information of the Wiki showing you what it does, while Interlopers shows you how to use it. I need to start opening a tab for each of them more often.
