• First attempt at an RP Map.

I've decided to start making an RP map. Note that all the wonky textures, and errors, will be fixed at the end. Also, I am new to making that "roleplay" feeling in maps, so please give me ideas on how I could improve on that, or improve on anything really. Video Preview: http://youtube.com/watch?v=lvxKZLClXd8 Give ideas please. And don't be a fag and say "It fucking sucks balls"... Watch HD, so that you can see more clearly.
It fucking sucks balls. Seriously though, it's pretty blocky, the lighting and textures are uninteresting, it's bare and the cliffs/grass aren't displaced, work on that.
Oh jesus christ, Phoenix you almost gave me a stroke.
Too small, bad texturing, amazingly flat, and you rated yourself. Either start improving and acting like you want feedback, or stop completely/keep releasing rubbish and getting a name for yourself. An rp map is not a house and a garage, town maps are not niche. Why would someone play that over something like bigcity, or evocity?
I know, I'm not stupid Pheonix. It's not even pretty much 1% done. Since when did I say it was done. I need ideas, and proper feedback, try bringing a bit more constructive criticism, texturing is just basic, map is small? It's only one little bit of the map...
Post when you've got stuff worth showing.

You claim it is not finished, that the texturing is balls, that there are issues. So what do you want crit on. If we say anything, you will pass it off as wip? What do you want...people to tell you are great? You are in the wrong place for that.
I don't want people to tell me I'm great, I want to tell them to actually give me stuff to improve on.
How...you haven't got any content, and you apparently know about everything that people bring up. If you bought a game where everything behind the main menu crashed it, and you took that to the company that told you that they knew about all of that, i'm guessing you wouldn't be too happy. You have provided something with issues, yet you don't give any opportunity for you to improve, because you keep fobbing everyone off.
You need to make your map interesting, make sewer system, some hidden passages and some dark alleys.
You rated yourself a mapping king :O

I think the garage door is moving good speed.
-snip; didn't intend it to be mean- Your map is really pretty shit. As Phoenix said, you've asked for feedback then responded to the feedback with "I'm aware and I'm going to fix that later". Go away, fix the stuff you know is wrong, then show us what you've done.
I remember you. You're like 12 aren't you? Your map is really pretty shit. As Phoenix said, you've asked for feedback then responded to the feedback with "I'm aware and I'm going to fix that later". Go away, fix the stuff you know is wrong, then show us what you've done.
Yeah, he admitted he was 12, and that was rather harsh
Ah good you edited your post because that was a bit to harsh. Lets see if the kid fixes some of the problems before we continue insulting him, shall we ?
It wasn't accusing him of being 12 that was harsh, it was telling him the map is shit and to leave when the OP has been a lot more civil than most new mappers around here
I don't like the look of evocity style rp maps. Why can't people go back to the basics like Oviscity , that was a small map and was fucking incredible
Your roads are barely wide enough for one car. Heaven forbid two cars try to pass each other at the same time.
Its best to have all these things in this guide before adding extra things from peoples ideas. http://wiki.garrysmod.com/?title=RP_Mapping
Its best to have all these things in this guide before adding extra things from peoples ideas. http://wiki.garrysmod.com/?title=RP_Mapping
No, it depends on where the mapper wants to go with it.
He's getting the same introduction I got to the mapping section earlier this year. :P Anyways, just try to put smaller details into it. Don't rush your creation. And don't repeat textures as much. I usually always try to have one or two small details at least every 128 x 128 units.
He it wasn't accusing him of being 12 that was harsh, it was telling him the map is shit and to leave when the OP has been a lot more civil than most new mappers around here
Not directed at any one person! I'm pretty civil and I have been from the start of my map project, though I'm about to reach my breaking point on here... I understand most are relatively young and what not, so with the immaturity I see around here its safe to say most are well, kids. Not harping on those who act professional and mature, but there are a few that criticize and give no pointers on how to "make it better" or theres those who have an ego the size of Jupiter and thinks they are all that and really not (I played on maps by some of you and though you can make eye candy maps you don't know how to properly wire your functions up and vice a versa). IMO: No One of us has any right to tell someone else their map is shit. What did Garry say about garrysmod.org? If you don't have anything nice to say then don't post at all? I would think that carries over to here as well, just out of mature respect but obviously some people lack that. So instead of posting flames saying "Your map is shit", "delete it and start over" or whatever why not actually try to assist them in what needs to be done to improve it. tell them "Hey you need to change this in the light env, or do this to your texturing or whatever" Otherwise your going to start a flame thread and its going to get locked and people get banned. If you find this "cold" well too bad, its a cold cruel world out there.
Guys, look, I just came from school. You know the hill textures? They're only like that because they're not done yet, I'm working on buildings and such, THEN going to go onto the textures and stuff. Also, Netheous (Post #11) is helping me with mapping, telling me what to do, stuff that I didn't know and Etc. Also, if I extend the roads abit, and press FIT, will it fit it like it has now, only more extended?
I think they are saying they might be too narrow?. 256 units seems to be a good size Im thinking but wider wouldn't hurt much either. There are some good tutorials on youtube for this type of stuff.
Saying what are too narrow? Do you have skype? Could you help me? Netheous isn't on since it's 6:00AM there.

I'm not usually on this late. My sleeping medicine is waking me up though, so yeah. I'm about to try to sleep again. I'm sorry I can't now, but I could try over private messages or something tomorrow.
i was helping him but he had to step out for a few hours...
I'm back from mah' cricket training, but gotta eat dinner. Will post abit of screenshots after, subdividing hills, POSSIBLY a 3d hilly skybox. Extended roads, a tunnel, etc. etc. How long does a RP map usually take to make, say for a guy with skill at my level? [editline]29th November 2010[/editline] 5 months?
depends on how much work you put into it
