My idea is to make a map which depends on people doing things for it to work such as people running a powerplant to keep the map alive with light. This is my first map upload but dont be alarmed i have spent many hours in hammer 600+. This is a proof of concept of what can be done with hammer entities no lua needed. The map consists of a Mill workshop and a Pizza house. The goal is to gather and make the items necessary weather it make a pizza or make a gun. The download contains the map and the Vmf to stimulate peoples creative minds how it has done with my friends I would like many more ideas and would like to see if i can make it possible with hammer. *Update* I have decided to make an actual map where this Concept plays a main Role To keep order within the map to hopefully stimulate some co-op Roleplay. Over the weekend i have been hard at work on creating more things to make people depend on each-other such as Fixing the Cog on the windmill to repairing doors to even keeping furnaces fed with wood. Just thinking off the possibilities and making them happen is a different story I will spend many hours of trial and error because i would like to release a map people would enjoy playing. <Mind My Enthusiasm> The file is here [img_thumb]http://www.garrysmod.org/img/?t=dll&id=113007[/img_thumb] http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=113007 My forum etiquette is not so good sorry* Yours Sincerely Rupert Cow
I think this is a pretty good idea, it has a good concept although the power plant may be a bit much, creating such a map would be enjoyable and create situations for serious roleplay.
Very interesting concept.
I think this is a pretty good idea, it has a good concept although the power plant may be a bit much, creating such a map would be enjoyable and create situations for serious roleplay.
Serious roleplay? "Hey Tim!" "NO! I'M BOB THE CRACK DEALER"
Thanks for the Positive comments guys! Please if you rate it dumb can you please tell me why you personally think it is dumb so I can improve. @ donkey Thanks first of all, I have actually been working on a population system for maps, its Lua based which counts everyone in the team index then then appropriate buttons are removed or roads blocked to even the Game play. This would work nice in this case because such things as the power-plant can be voided so the first person who connects does not need to keep the power afloat.
This is gold people! There should be more maps like this!
Looks pretty nifty
This is gold people! There should be more maps like this!
Unfortunately many people think that lua is the only way to rig things like this, so they don't bother. Kudos for doing something cool though.
Umm the link is directing me to a picture link?
Serious roleplay? "Hey Tim!" "NO! I'M BOB THE CRACK DEALER"
Maybe its a startup point for actualy serious roleplay.
I remember when Spacew00t did this. It was rather disappointing that he never released a map using the concepts.
Yes i did indeed start my ideas after watching his video's well it was some time after watching his video's and knowing that it is possible. He made some remarkable stuff and we were luckily he shared this with us http://www.facepunch.com/threads/953424-Dynamic-Hammer-Based-Vehicle-Drive-it-Fuel-it-Break-it-Fix-it...-Release-it?p=22598468&viewfull=1#post22598468 After watching his video's again i can see how i can make simple adjustments. I dont actually know what his intention was with his map weather he was going to turn it into like Goals you needed to finish I am not sure or similar to mine.
You should make the process a bit simpler. You should also attempt to make a full map and maybe even some working WIPs that people can look at to see how it's done, especially so we can get more of this. This concept is just awesome and it needs to have something done with it.
maybe you can make it work like minecraft a bit where you can build your own house with resources you found?
maybe you can make it work like minecraft a bit where you can build your own house with resources you found?
Just have one of the machine processes manufacture props.
Just have one of the machine processes manufacture props.
well I was thinking of cutting wood for processing planks and the metal process for nails so you can nail it together.
Reminds me of oc_harvest, paysan etc. on Obsidian Conflict, which probably originated from somewhere else, and also, you don't try to keep the village alive, you just try to get lots of pts. I think your idea is better though. Is there a sorta timer which records how long we survived or something? That would definitely make it more interesting, try to make a highscore etc.
I remember a map like this ages ago in RP, was good fun making chair out of the trees we were cutting down and making pots and pans out of the ore we mined :3:
I dont plan to make it simpler because i think with my use of entities its as simple as i can go. probably the hardest thing has been Spam filters so people cant make 10000 rocks or bails. I have added ALOT you know need to harvest the grain, The windmill breaks and the metal fabricator can replace the cog. Trees can be cut down to either feed the pizza oven or the Furnace. Doors eventually break so you need to make another one by collecting wood for the door maker. i also added recycle so you can burn the doors and resmelt the molds. some updates if anyone is interested http://s1005.photobucket.com/albums/af172/bonza2212/Rp_dependance/ also some test vid:
Looks Snazzy! :3:
Mind if I ask, Jukka K; how is this dumb?
Very nice! I've never quite been able to create situations like this except in linear kinds of maps, so my hat's off to you because you managed to pull it off!
Really nice, it would be a cool idea to use the guns that you can make to fight off some kind of NPCs at a border/gate of the map, not like a massive horde but to fight off occasional enemies.
