When I go to launch hammer with hl2dm selected User Account control pops up with the following information:
Program name: Hammer.exe
File origin : hard-drive on this computer
Publisher : Unknown
program location: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\ryladine\sourcesdk\bin\ep1\bin\hammer.exe -allowdebug -game C:\program files\steam\steamapps\ryladine\half-life 2 deathmatch\hl2mp -nop4
The top bar is yellow.
I press yes, and the dialogue disappears and nothing else happens.
If I try it with another game, such as couterstrike source, the excact same appears except that it is directing to cstrike in the second file path, The top bar is blue, and the publisher is verified as steam, and hammer launches.
I can't find any other differences.
I have re-installed source sdk, the source engine, hl2, and hl2dm..
The only other difference is how I am running steam, (steamapps is on a different hard-drive than steam, due to space issues, done with the mklink command)
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Move steam into the other harddrive.
I seriously doubt that is the issue. Absolutely everything else works. I'm willing to try it, but I would want some very specific information why that could cause my exact issue. I worked hard to do it the way I did so I would not have to fight with installing steam on an alternative hard-drive, something that always causes me problems.
Nothing against you personally of course, but as I said, hammer can open other games just fine as it is.
You could just disable "User Account control"? I always hated that thing.
