Map Project - Grand Size Sequel to 'The Royal Pilgrim'. Team Needed!

Hey guys, it's been a long while now since I released my maps of 'The Royal Pilgrim'. The fairly small sinking ship map which I dare say is the most realistic map of its kind.
Seen here, http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=128199&fb_comment_id=fbc_434109354966_13323995_434113464966#f24ab66388.

A lot of people seemed to love the idea of running around on a sinking ship! Which I of course love! It quickly became very popular shortly after release and I started getting bombarded by demand for a grander,
bigger ship with this same style of sinking. The problem was, this map was already pushing the games engine to the limit and much more expansion would cause the map to crash when you initialised the sinking process.
So I refused, and took a break from mapping after the long, frustrating project that was that ship.
SO! After being away from mapping for a while, my eye was caught by the old map in my Gmod list. After playing it, I was re-inspired to make a new, much grander ship doomed to sink beneath the waves!
For a short while now, I've been having new ideas on how I can trick the engine and make a much grander ship to enjoy running around in a mad panic as it slowly decends in the dark abyss.
But this time round, if I tried to make it alone, I would soon loose inspiration due to trying to do everything I've planned on my own. Which is when I decided I needed to put together a team to try and
make this dream of a grand new ship a reality!
For those of you who are really moved by the story and mysteries of the Titanic, and all other great ships that were conquered by the sea. I hope I can drag some of the creative, experienced and dedicated wierdo's that are
the Facepunch community into a team that will help me create this new project!
I'm already skilled at mapping, mainly only in a creative sense though and not so much from a technical perspective. As well as digital and traditional forms of graphic art.
Mainly, I need -experienced- people for these roles...
3D Modelers,
Texture Artists/Maybe concept artists.
Experienced Mapper (For advice and assistance),
Maybe Sound artists,
Possibly coders/scripters.
Someone with extensive maritime knowledge!
There may be other roles.
Please bare in mind, I'm hoping people can generously join me just out of love for the idea of this map project with out expecting payment. Though I'm not a rich man, I am willing to offer payment to those who offer a considerable
contribution to the project, but I'm going to be very strict about this. If you're honest, dedicated and hardworking it's likely you'll be rewarded.
I will need to see proof of previous work before I take any volunteers on the team, and I'll contact you privately if I am considering your offers. I will not be answering to over-excited 12 year old newbs. I'm looking for serious, experienced and
honest people to make up this team.
I'm hoping this idea has really hit some of you, and I hope you guys are out there with the same aims and dreams I have!
Thanks guys, I will be watching this thread closely!

Progress update! 05/09/12
Since I started this thread. I've gathered almost a full team, already there's good progress and a decent amount of custom content.
Things are going well so far! The plan is changing from a single map to a series of maps and maybe even a mod! But we'll see! Too early to think that far ahead.
We've started off in the bowels of the ship, you (Probably a crewman) were heading down in the elevator, when all of a sudden a mighty crash shakes the ship, and sends your ride plummeting down the shaft to the boiler room below.
Still alive, you know that may still change when water starts flooding the bowels of the ship. Straight away, you will have to think fast and get on the move unless you want your grave to be in a lift shaft at the bottom of the ocean!
First screenshots of the boiler room!

These rooms are still under construction, but next time you see them, they will be filling with salt water!
I hope this gives you confidence in the project! We still have roles to fill, if you can assist us, please send me a pm!
*Update* 09/10/12
We have another update, the first level has been drastically improved, it has real atmosphere now. Here are some screenshots...

We still need -dedicated- people to fill some posts!
Texture Artist and 3D Model Artist.
We could also use a sound artist and someone who has good experience with particle systems!
Please PM me if you believe you can fill these posts! Thanks!
I can help with planning and give advice.
I can help, I can port objects for you into source and add map meshes.
I can also study and rip sounds from some movies that involve sinking (Jame Cameron's Titanic and the ending of Jaws ect.)
I can be a mapping slut, and do any dirty brushwork you want. I can make fairly complicated shapes and I might be able to do some textures once I figure out photoshop. I'm not very good at entity work, so you will have to find someone else to do that kind of thing.
I can do some concept art if need be.
If you need any proof of experience just check out my profile page.
I'm also really good with displacements.
We need a good texture artist to take on the full role of custom textures.
Anyone who can fill that role?

I'm not amazing with textures but I could have a go
Edit: One of my textures:

Could also really use a concept artist to take our deck plans and my quick sketches to the next level.
Bump! Progress update!
Looks amazing so far. I loved the first one and had lots of fun with that, so I can't wait to see where you go with this new one.
I can be y'all's cheerleader! jk I suck at map making.
Hello again! We need someone who can make decent particle effects for the water! At the moment the water is lacking, it's hitting walls and corners and shows no interest. We really need some custom particle effects to capture the fury of the water!
I hope there's someone out there! It may not be very time consuming for you if we can get effects that are very adaptable.
Wow, those boilers look amazing. Well done.
If you ever need anyone who has a near-obsessive attention to detail concerning the Titanic disaster, hit me up.
i can be the ideas guy but youll have to pay me real good

Despite what you think, the OP actually does stuff. He is actually quite a good mapper and knows what he wants.
This project looks incredible! If needed I have decent mapping experience as well as ship design & maritime knowledge.
Okay, we need a new model artist! Anyone out there? Quality needed can be seen in those boilers in the screenshots. You'll be kept busy.
Update! Please check out the new screens and available positions!
I've been workin in the boilah rooms!
So how is this going to sink? Are you planning on having everything around the ship move upwards simulating a sinking ship? Because you wont be able to tie that all to an entity and have it sink like that unless its pretty much all a model.

Yes. The water will be moving, not the ship, at least at this point.
It will be a mixture of both. Since the ship is going to be designed like your average HL2 level, which you can backtrack through (to an extent) the sequence of rooms will be both static and dynamic, as well as moving and static water.
This will simulate both the flood of water and the listing of the ship as it gets weighed down.
I could take a crack at some 3d models if I know what you need??
Sorry that didn't work out, but we still need a Model Artist as well as someone to create custom Particles. Right now this is the biggest obstacle!
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
