I present you with gm_mountain. The first map Ive released in years. This was a test to see how well I could make a mountain using various techniques. The size is roughly the full grid on the horizontal axis. If you like the map enough and want me to continue it, let me know! Here is a link to the workshop download. Looks good for scenebuilds.
Is this in HDR?
It reminds me of some videos I've seen of Afghanistan. With a bit of work this could be real useful for an Afghan like scenebuild. Thanks man, good work
Heightmap DEM + Terrain generator? it looks great however you did it
Heightmap DEM + Terrain generator? it looks great however you did it
I had used a NASA heightmap and imported it into Terrain Generator. I made the terrain very small, but detailed so I could export with no problems and open it in hammer. Once I got the terrain in hammer I converted the heightmap in a texture which I applied over the entire terrain. Made a normal map from the heighmap, then I painted over the heightmap in photoshop with some textures, blended them together, exported and it was finished. The whole process took me about 5 minutes.
i love you

Can I make a suggestion for the skybox? You should use land (distant moutains or whatever) for the skybox instead of a sea, so that it'll blend in more with the map. That should be an easy thing to do since it looks like you're using Terragen for the skybox and you could just generate some mountains or whatever for the skybox.
What program are you using to transfer from height maps to displacements? Terrain Generator, mentioned above, only seems to do HL1 brushes
What program are you using to transfer from height maps to displacements? Terrain Generator, mentioned above, only seems to do HL1 brushes
Pretty sure it does HL2 displacements.
This map would be a great 3D Skybox.
I hope you don't mind me asking, but specifically where did you get the heightmaps from? I tried looking for topography data but to no avail.

I've been able to reproduce your setup pretty much exactly, save for one thing that's puzzling me; how do you go about applying a texture over the whole terrain? (getting the scale right etc)

Downloaded it but ingame it didnt make me feel as little as I thought it would Great work though
