Hi, To practice with hammer I decided to make a "water street" from venice. So far, this is what I got; How do I make the quay look less blocky and make it look more realistic? Any other tips? Thanks.
Use a smaller grid in hammer. You can use [ and ] to adjust the grid size in hammer.
In terms of realism good texture work could mask your blockiness. Try using different textures on the stairs, sides of the stairs and align them properly.
What I mean is, how do I make the quay like... Uh... Curvey? Since a quay isn't exactly perfectly right but it is slightly curved., if that's the right word
Make use of other forms of brushes, like arches and cylinders. Also, the clipping tool and to some extent the Vertex tool can be your best friends. Just watch out you don't make any concave brushes by accident, otherwise Source will throw a huge bitchfit when you go to compile.
