Hello everyone! Kinda new to the forums here but iv got a very simple question.
Does anyone have any ideas for maps of any sort? Now i'm not a mapping god so don't expect anything world changing but go ahead and post ideas like that anyway!
I will give any idea i like my best shot!
One more thing i might want to specify...I only make maps for garrysmod.
Also if you want a specific map "Basicly a custom built map" Give me a pm with the specifics you want and i will be happy to attempt it for you. Simple ideas just post em here and il see about making them.

Just the building itself? As in having the spawn for the player inside and no way out? (A very simple drawing would be great or a picture.)
Cyberpunk maps. There is only about one and it is small.

OP, you should base a map off a famous building or something, it's great fun to replicate something if you've got alot of references for it.

The building + some streets so it doesn't feel empty.
The office could be something like cs_office but in a skyscraper instead (and bigger).
try recreating a building from street view
that house is abandon and with a broken floor on the first floor. Also the foundation floor is flooded with water
just search this adress below and enter the street view, look at the house on the left without windows and tags

If you have HL2, I suggest a combine-styled map with lots of funky architecture.
For Counter Strike, or other games in general, you may want to try a natural setting, like a forest or a river. Global Offensive in particular only has 2 maps taking place in natural areas, and nature is always nice to look at. You may have some optimization problems but render distance should fix that. Take [URL="http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=38281"]de_forest[/URL] as an example.

Bit of advice, OP (or anyone really), don't try and recreate an area from an image you see, merely great something of your own with similar themes, features and atmospheres. It allows you to express your creativity rather than worry about getting things such as dimensions right, which can easily and swiftly remove all momentum and subsequently kill a project.

Personally I've found just taking my mind off of it and doing other things helps me come up with the best ideas. Read a book, watch some movies, play some other games you'll find yourself coming up with your own ideas soon enough. Getting ideas from others isn't bad but you'll find that you are more likely to be enthused and wanting to finish a map that is your own concept.

i know that map. it's rather well done, but it only has the indoor areas, the Source grid size is big enough to fit in at least half of the colony with all the interiors if the optimization is done right

That's fairly vague; I think the poster was looking for something a bit more concrete.
How about a water map with a nicely decorated sea floor. put a big ass horizontal area portal so people can't see the sea floor from the top. Then you can go abit crazy with shipwrecks, rocks, caves, weed etc
Space station maps are always in short supply, there are Space Build stuff, but nothing on the eye-candy or RP level. It could just be the inside of a big ole space-station, some parts are big and open, other parts could be cramped and small. I've always liked gm_research (It's a tragedy that it's so damn small...), and I've always thought that other stuff like that would be cool. If you do intend to try to do this, I suggest you start watching, reading, listening to, and playing any game, movie, song, or novel that makes you think of space.

Area 51/Goldeneye like bunker with futuristic massive doors with multiple corridors the ouside being a canyon/desert setting. You could even go ahead and put some [B]EVIL[/B] research labs or torture chamber using lasers and stuff. Also having some sort of water treatment facility in this base where you can spot a small waterfall, or a cloning facility with pods coming out from the floor.
Or just make a map and put some flying sharks in it.
A tricky map would be a recreation of "Uruk" from sphinx and the cursed mummy, a dark wasteland filled with lava pools, dying trees, large rock structures which are becoming engulfed in the rock faces of cliffs...
