Ignore the title, it was just to get your attention.
My problem is, I need a hole made in a displacement, specifically a sewage pipe through the side of a lake.
I've tried using the clipping tool but it fucked my displacement up for some reason.
Is there any way I can do this without remaking the lake from scratch?
The pipe has 8 faces, if that matters.
Holy shit, I saw the thread title, this was my immediate response -

As for your actual problem - make sure the pipe is of a decent size that you can trim displacements down to. Make sure you change size in your displacements by powers, like 1024->512->256->128, etc. But anyway, how big is your displacement that one messed up one means you have to redo the whole lake?

Make four separate brushes in this pattern:

Then convert them to displacements and use the separate axes in the Paint Geometry tool to make them fit around the hole. This way, it still sews to the displacements around it.
If you're making displacements right (i.e. not one big displacement but a grid of smaller displacements), then you only have to redo that square.
The pipe is 96x96 thick, and the wall of the lake it's going through is actually originating from a horizontal displacement, just saying cause I dunno if it matters.
The size of the whole lake is 4096x4096 from top view.

Alright gonna try and redo the lake with rubber's idea.

Yeah I'm really bad at displacements, I just don't see this working. I'll come up with something else instead, thanks anyway guys.
I'm just going to ask - is this pipe accessible by players? If not, you can literally sink a displacement right over it and just put a tools/black block brush at the end of it
What rubber posted is not difficult, you just need to make sure the displacements around it share a common face size. Make 1024x1024 size displacements for your lake, when you get to the pipe, make sure the 4 displacements have one side that is also 1024 that touches the other displacements. It WILL work.
