Hey,
I've googled myself silly and can't seem to find a solution. I've verified the integrity of my cache and shut down steam, but GCFScape is still failing to extract some things from episode 1 shared.gcf . It throws this error.

(The funny part is, the game still runs fine.)
What the actual flying fuck? Can someone help me find a solution to this?
This smells to me like a version mixup. Are you sure you have the latest GCFScape?
Try VIDE

@Mozart
Yes. 1.8.4. Althought latest is something I rarely use to describe something last touched in 2010.

I'm not the only one getting this error, either, a few of my friends have reproduced it as well.
Try it yourselves and tell me what you think. I think it's valve shitting the bed again.
Uh, then try an earlier version I guess? Might have something to do with the new version of HLLib. Here's version 1.8.3.

It's actually been updated quite recently.
The joke is, I upgraded from 1.8.3 to 1.8.4 after I eoncountered the problem, because I'm not a dummy and updating stuff is usually one of my first diagnostic steps.
Should I try the next oldest version?
I recall opening Episode One content with my current version (1.8.0), though I can't test it now as I don't have the game anymore.
Not sure if your still after this file, but I managed to extract it.
