• Problems with gameconfigurations and can't run rad

Hello, I am having troubles with getting a good gameconfiguration. I freshly reinstalled steam not so long ago but it still is a mess. Why do I need so many copies of hammer and which one do I use? I have installed: Steam, HL2, Gmod, Source SDK. But I get a gameconfig error everytime. How do I set it up? I found on google how to reset it etc but nothing works. I can't use hammer at all through Source SDK, I always use the one in gmod and my maps are saved there too. I can compile fine in BSP and Vvis, but not in Rad. I thought maybe this is the problem too? I also tried vbct but that one refuses to compile my map too. Thanks [editline]9th August 2013[/editline] I just tried in hammer on expert mode, I can compile in bsp with -ldr, not with -hdr and it takes 1min31sec. However: when I try to add any kind of -vvis with it, it does crash and takes more than an hour. I know it crashes for real and doesn't freeze because my pc is still fast and when i click close it closes immidately. Any ideas how I can get both -vvis and -rad? Even if it's fast and not hd.
It looks like in VBCT you are trying to compile using the old sdk files, don't do that it's now all through the steamapps/common/gamename/bin folder.
I use hammer and I map from steamapps/common/Half Life 2/bin and my maps are located in steamapps/common/Garrysmod/bin However when I try to use hammer from garrysmod I get gameconfig errors, and it doesn't even show up for hl2 or gmod.
Solved! Not the gameinfo or the gameconfig, but the rad.exe problem is solved. So I guess it doesn't really matter then, because I won't be neednig vbct right? I just let it compile rad.exe with -ldr and then writefile and after that the vvis compile and writefile again. It will not crash or even say it's not responding. And I have my 50mb max mapsize bsp file with both vvis and lightening in 11 minutes and 43 seconds. Oh one more thing: It suddenly says at the end of the compiler eventhough the map is finished, written and playable with changes that windows gave the error message: "access denied". Should I be concerned? Nothing seems wrong though
