• Custom map music corrupted - Pakrat or wrong .wav settings?
    8 replies, posted
I'm a novice mapper and I've made a map for the Slender Fortress gamemode. I've added a disco with 7 songs and 4 PvP zones based on classic games, each with looping music. The map runs, looks and sounds perfect for me, but when I pakrat and share it, it seems the music always gets corrupted for my friends. It's either pakrat hating me and corrupting my songs, or me encoding the wavs wrong. The disco songs are triggered via buttons that trigger ambient_generics (.wav). These tracks do not loop. The ones on the PvP zones (also .wav ambient_generics) do, however. Yet it seems now not even one of the songs work. I've tried so many .wav bitrates and encoders, but I've hit a dead end. If anyone could help me I'd be much obliged. EDIT: .wavs are encoded at 44100, 354 kbps
packrat acts weird after the steampipe update [editline]17th August 2013[/editline] it's linked to the directory change
Is there anything I could do to change the directory pakrat uses?
don't think so
pakrat should work fine, just move (or copy) the files you want to pack into the old folders temporarily, i.e. instead of custom/my_custom_stuff/sound/rumia/nameofsong.wav, you'd have sound/rumia/nameofsong.wav as for the encoding of the audio, I believe mp3s need to be 22kHz. that's what I always use. don't know about wav though. I'd recommend converting them to mp3, for smaller file size. 128kbps is a decent compromise between size and fidelity.
Why would pakrat malfunction after steam pipe?
If Pakrat doesn't work, try an alternative like MapAnalysis.

If you aren't sure of the sound format, extract a looping sound from hl2 and compare its properties to yours.
