Hey guys!! SO I wrote an article about my experience with the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive mapping promotion, Operation: Payback. You can check it out here: http://www.mapcore.org/page/features/_/articles/operation-payback-first-hand-r27
Happy to answer any additional questions you guys have :)

"As for myself, I'm in law school. At my school, students should budget for a debt load in the area of $60,000. So far, thanks to Valve and the community’s generosity, I have received almost $18,000, putting a serious dent in my debt. By the end of this year, thanks to Bravo, that figure is likely to grow substantially..."
Ill take that as a yes.

Valve chooses you.
Expected something bad, but this article was actually really well-written and directed well at an audience like me

That's for sure!
How long did it take for you to complete Gwalior?

Gwalior was made for a contest, so I only had one month.

That sounds incredibly fast, at least compared to the pace I am used to. Do you have a design process for the map or does everything just sort of come together without much planning before-hand?

My design process isn't shockingly different from anyone elses, I don't think, I graybox - iterate layout with testing - basic art - detail pass. Where I think I'm able to save a lot of time is with experience and a general understanding at this point in time of what's going to work and what won't. Not to say that my maps are perfect.
