I'm working on Liberty City from GTA 1 for Garry's mod. This is how it looks: This is what have I done: I'd finish it alone, but I could possibly go crazy, so I'd need some help with it. Who wants to finish it with me can add me here: http://steamcommunity.com/id/nitestokeh
it won't be possible to remake the whole city because ~60% will fit in the grid
it won't be possible to remake the whole city because ~60% will fit in the grid
It would, I've compared Hammer grid and map bounds before starting working on it. ( I'll only agree with you if you were talking about GTA III LC or GTA IV one. )

you'll hit max solids before you finish it also the portalflow will still be going when the heat death of the universe happens
you'll hit max solids before you finish it also the portalflow will still be going when the heat death of the universe happens
Not if he uses models. He might run into light mapping issues though.
you'll hit max solids before you finish it also the portalflow will still be going when the heat death of the universe happens
It's possible to replace 128x128 blocks with the bigger ones if the texture repeats, and that's what I will do to prevent hitting max brushes.
if it wont fit make it 1/4 of the size and then use it with the addon what makes everything 1/4 the size
It will fit but you will still have problems. I tried it before: http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=997338&p=25653612&viewfull=1#post25653612 CS:GO's dynamic lighting made it possible to do everything with models: http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1266847 Also why GTA1? The GTA 2 maps were much more interesting as far as I remember.
Didn't you see my Tiny Town? It was hard to make, so I choosed GTA 1 maps because they're more blocky.
I think it's a little late, and not really worth your time. GTA5 is out, and Source has too many limits. You might actually be better off with UE3

Obviously I'm being sarcastic. Keep it up OP. It's looking great so far.
I honestly have no idea why I am doing this, but the street now is a bit longer:

If you're referring to the size of the actual city blocks of being 128x128, thats fine... but these portals are generated by actual world geometry. To avoid this issue, is to use func_detail. But at that rate, you might as well make everything into models.
Didn't you see my Tiny Town? But in comparison into size, and complexity of projects. This is just simply just a doubt in the engines ability to handle something of this scale. Even your latest screenshot looks nice, but I've seen many attempts at a liberty city remake for gmod. However, its a rarity if they do get completed. I do wish you luck though.
I think this looks great!
Looks good. Dasmatze did something similar. You should check it for some inspiration.
