After making tens to hundreds of maps, I got sick of making skyboxes, making 3D skyboxes, searching through VALVe's skylist, and the rest of that jazz.
So I put this Visual C# program together that will probably give me two hours of my life back.

Give it the parameters it wants and it can spit out a generated map with a skybox, 3D skybox, and a configured light_environment (based on the sky you choose.)
So if you have any questions just let me know. One might be: Buster, what is 3D Sky Dist? Its the distance from where the 3D skybox ground starts to where it ends.
If you want it:

So you load up a vmf to add in a skybox? It takes no more than 30 seconds to set everything up in hammer though, as well as this is a very inefficient way to use a skybox.

It generates the VMF.
Inefficient yes, but typical GMod maps are set up this way to give players freedom to move about the world. The tool is intended for GMod sandbox type maps or for testing.

You're being ridiculous, 30 seconds is all you need to create a proportional 3d sky box with the sky texture with lighting values correct? Did you even use the program? It's a shortcut that skips one of the most mundane and over-done parts of mapping. Constantly wanting to try new map themes, new terrains, but sky boxes again and again :/
It's fixed now
All you need to do during testing is make a box around your level, and when you're done you can delete that and add in a proper, efficient skybox. It takes less time to set up a well-done skybox than you'd think, certainly not hours.
Pretty cool, always nice to see little tools that save a few minutes of fucking around with lights and skyboxs. Nice job mate! :D

It's ok AeonCastle, I'm not forcing you to use it. I just made it for fun.

you sir are a god damn genius
Hot damn, thank you! I will definitely be trying this out for my current project.

Well it only exports new maps right now, so please don't overwrite anything you've been working on.
Might be a bit difficult, but if you did something like this that supported all skyboxes, and allowed say clicking on the image where you want your sun to be, that would be amazing. Also sampling colors for the sun/ambient off the image would be cool too.
