So I wanted to use a skybox other than the default one and then this happened

It turns back to normal when I face certain directions, but when I turn back it goes back to skybox cover map.
The image does not work.

Portal 2 has no support for the "Skybox" shader.
if you can edit the material's .vmt file and change it to UnlitGeneric for each side.
They were unlit generic and the problem still happened
Did you compile with hdr lighting?
I compiled with and without and same result.
