• Music you listen to when programming

I always feel I can concentrate better with some music in the background, usually few (or no) vocals. Once I know what I'm doing and have a brief idea of how I'm going to do it, music helps me work faster So, I'd like to know what you listen to (if anything) when programming Here's one of my favorite ones:
I just loop this
Michael Jackson. Seriously, it's magical music, I always solve my problems when shuffle leads me to some MJ
I listen to a lot of Children of Bodom and Arch Enemy..

This is my personal playlist, I just put shuffle and go code. http://grooveshark.com/#/playlist/Dafon/56145143
as a summer project, I've been digitizing my dad's old vinyl collection - there's some awesome 80s pop in there, some rock music between late 70s - early 90s. Quality is still excellent for it having survived 6 moves and 20-30 years of storage. I feel most productive when I'm listening to Journey, Boston, Fleetwood Mac (specifically Rumours), Rush, and a bunch of other bands that would take me too long to list off in this post right now.
I have the Immersion album from Pendulum on shuffle infinite repeat, or my Insomnium playlist on the same thing, or iTunes radio.
For me, that first song is too jarring. When wanting to get work done, I listen to just one band. Change in musical styles interrupts me, but it doesn't matter if it has lyrics. (different artists reminds me of different things I've worked on :P). Also if I want to work I HAVE to use earphones, and not just have it play through speakers.
I have the Immersion album from Pendulum on shuffle infinite repeat, or my Insomnium playlist on the same thing, or iTunes radio.
I found Pendulum about two months ago and was listening to Hold Your Color, In Silico and Immersion almost non-stop. Before I usually listened to Infected Mushroom (Psy-Trance) [1][2], some Electronica (paniq, CC - take that copyright!), some 8-bit and metal (Children of Bodom, Evergreen Terrace, Disbelief, System of a Down, Eyes Set to Kill, Amon Amarth mostly. Too lazy to search for samples for each one). I also have an album by Wizzy Noise (also Psy-Trance) [1][2]; I need to get more stuff from these guys. The big amount of metal comes from my circle of friends. I listen to the same music when doing other stuff. Though I sometimes need to turn it off for a while when I'm trying to figure out an algorithm or something. Also, not quite OTT, but all my music is digitalized as FLAC. Even the stuff I put on my PMP, which is running Rockbox (though the original firmware also handles FLACs just fine).
When I work on something I listen to some random music, but when I finally make it work I fire up Prodigy or Metallica to celebrate.
I listen to film and game scores. Some of the best I've found are Inception, The Social Network, Tower of Heaven and Shadow of the Colossus.
I normally play some TV series I've already watched on my laptop. It's in my opinion better then music.
I usually listen to repetitive stuff such as Drum & Bass from dnbheaven.com or Deadmau5. The lack of lyrics helps me concentrate
Too strong a rhythm is distracting, as are vocals in a language I understand (though foreign languages are usually OK). Ambient music is good, like this for example. So's spacey electronic music like this or this. And I've looped this song from Mirror's Edge for hours — it's great for concentration. Often I just turn the music off, though. Soundtrack music is written to be interesting without being the focus of your attention, so it's good "background music" for other things too. One of my favorites is the Last Samurai soundtrack, by Hans Zimmer.
Random chiptunes, Dubmood and FantomenK
Glitch, hip-hop, (and by extension) glitch-hop, progressive rock, classical, metal, and a few others.
Random chiptunes, Dubmood and FantomenK
Oh god, I love it!

Normally i will just chuck on a BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix, they are about 2 hours and usually are pretty kickass.

I listen to Venom too

I usually pick one track that I will never grow tired of and stick with it for the whole programming session. The Belle Stars - Iko Iko Adam Ant - Apollo 9 Electric Six - Watching Evil Empires Fall Apart
Hans Zimmer, about anything he composed.
somehow gabriel faure keeps me concentrated but i can't stand it when not programming
I listen to Ulrich Schnauss whenever I want to keep myself motivated while programming. Really, if you like music like boards of canada, you will like his music. No lyrics, just music. I listen to them in .flac of course.
I listen to Ulrich Schnauss whenever I want to keep myself motivated while programming.
Hmm, not bad. I hadn't heard of him before. The music sounds a little muddy in the YouTube videos, but I assume that's just the compression. Parts of the first song remind me of the refrain from Grow Up and Blow Away, though it's not a strong resemblance.
The music sounds a little muddy in the YouTube videos, but I assume that's just the compression.
Most music on Youtube is like this :(
Epic music makes programming more exciting.
