Is trying to run a DarkRP server still a good idea?

I've been spending some time lately working on some projects in lua and thought about investing my time into a full out server. I am looking to make something that isn't bloated and just filled with everything that can possibly fit, like many other servers out there, but rather have everything custom made by myself with an exception of a couple useful building tools and DarkRP. Honestly a lot of the motivation for this idea came from a server I spent years on, turning into another bloat fest, so I just wish I could make something which reminds me of the good old days on there.
Just wondering if it's still worth the effort in 2018, or should I expect this game to die out soon?

Make one, but make it so rules aren't required to be followed. As in coding in anti-rdm scripts, prop kill immunity and all that jazz.

I completely agree with that. Of course rules should be enforced, but by staff which get properly made tools that would allow them to properly judge different situations.

How do you code an anti-RDM script that knows the context of every kill?

A machine can't register the context for a kill but you can make it so there's an automated mugging, duelling and general crime system that makes a player vunerable to weapon damage.

Just my 2 cents. Make your code limit what the player can do, not the rules. It also helps your administrative team. Also trust me the amount of 12 year old owners that I see with 30+ people on their server is crazy I don't think Gmod is dying anytime soon and if you think so make it a passion project or hobby to learn so when the next big thing comes out you know how to do that better than this!

gmod have a lot of "duplicated" DarkRP server. That's not good idea if you wan't write your own game mode with many different futures and optimization.
