We will use this thread for random bits of news and whatnot that falls short of sensationalist headlines, as well as speculation/appreciation. It will be aimed at the broad field, but will mainly focus on SpaceX. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Upcoming SpaceX launches: SpaceX launch manifest (reddit) Upcoming launches: Launch Schedule ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ SpaceX media (official): Youtube Flickr Twitter (SpaceX) Twitter (Elon) Website ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ SpaceX social: Reddit: /r/spacex/ NASA Space Flight (requires costly L2 subscription) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Elon Musk's growing empire is fueled by $4.9 BILLION in government subsidies Mark Zzuckerberg for President
Your shitposts are like nothing else I've ever read
As an Aerospace Engineer.. finding a job sucks.
i can only imagine the pain of job searching once i complete my phd in physics
Personally I've been growing to like Rocket Labs in recent weeks over SpaceX, namely because I like Cubesats and low cost platforms to get cubesats to LEO. But they've had some pretty cool innovations when it comes to the Electron rocket: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5k1mlu6A7I
Has anyone seen the documentary series Mars? Elon Musk and Space-X also play a part there. I find it very interesting, hopefully there will be a second season out of it sometime!
They almost recovery a fairing (it landed on water) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DWvZcVYVoAA92Ea.jpg:orig more pics here (you can even see some damage)
Slightly off topic but "Elon Musk" is one of the least appealing names I've ever heard
Iridium-5 mission LIVE NOW https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mp0TW8vkCLg
Saw the launch from far. Sadly even though it was contrail weather, the sun was too high to see the second stage trail, but we saw the first stage contrail and the glowing engine nozzle of second stage.
The only launch I've ever seen live was a shuttle launch from my grandparents' house which is about 50 miles. One of the things I remember is that even after the actual body of the rocket had disappeared from views, you could still see the SSMEs burning. Do we know yet if they recovered the fairings?
They're still falling from the sky. Probably just minutes before we get a confirmation, you should follow elon on twitter for updates: https://twitter.com/elonmusk
didn't realize the mission was still ongoing honestly, i usually don't wake up this early this mission is the first one where i've truly understood the sheer mass that we can put into space, and it's awesome. i've stood next to a scale model of a first-gen iridium sat and they are pretty fucking big, and NEXT is even larger. this launch is putting 10 of them into orbit and also carrying some rideshare satlets. crazy.
Aw man I missed the mission ;-;

You're wrong. I translated it and I can confirm that he said "I'm an idiot."
Awesome stuff!
