Yes, these are the points that make this game boring as hell, (at least for me and my friends) that makes every day a lot of servers close, and a lot of people leave.
Playing more than 1000 hours, which arent much, I got very tilted today about a 3 guys raiding me, and one of them, naked, killing me after got 2 headshots with a LR.
Well, these are 2 points, lets see more.

After 2 updates, I come again to play, or at least try. Joinning vanila, after read the update, didnt expected that FP limited the build. That means, if you build your house, 4x4x4, you need to farm stone/metal wathever, just to keep your house safe of decay... Well, im not agreed 100% with that shit, but I know it was "necessary", to limit some people of build giants house that makes you spend 2 years to find the loot.
Anyways, this new system, its just to force us to farm and play more if we want to keep our build without decay. One of most horrible decisions that FP did.
Yesterday, I build my house as i did since I started this game, a cube with the loot more or less, in a corner towards the middle, that means, a lot of doors, and a lot of walls.
The cost was 70k of metal per 24 hours, size was 11x9x3. Someone think is big? The loot room, with 6 shelves, one room with one shelve, and 4 foundations with the WBs and the Research table, and one room 5x4 with furnaces... That all, 70k of metal per 24 hours.
When I was on vanila, I had a house in a mountain with a lot of external walls and two quarrys. Me, playing alone in a vanilla, just saying.
Now, I need to farm for my house, every shit I get, is going to the cupboard, and after that, I must go outside again to farm for items...
I just understand that, its for force us to play more and expend hours for nothing. (praying for 3 years, for that fucking stone and the metal get diferent life)

Admin abuse
Its very hard to have some people of trust, that supervise every server, or just make the fucking servers all oficial? Because its a shit, find a server, make your house, make friends... and two days ago, without a fucking reason, we, 5, in the same clan, got banned of the server for "no recoil".
You know what was we doing? I was farming, other was in house crafting, and the rest was afk having a dinner.
The real reason that we got ban of his server, was because we raided a clan that were friends of the admin. We were looking his profile, and the whole clan was friend of the admin... Hell Yeah! All Legit!
This... Frustrating about how the whole game conspire about the gameplay. Making no sense of play and get bans without reason... People that instakills you, or survive with 2 headshots... Infinite farming to prevent your house go to shit...
Ill try to play this month at least, or try. All my friends leaved the game for these reason that I said. I think ill be the next one that unninstall this, because every update, every month they have the excuse:
"its an alpha"
Yes, I totally agree with you, man. Matter of fact, I was going to make a post similar to this, but you beat me to it. I miss the legacy days of Rust, where everything was much simpler, etc. Everything about legacy was a 1000 times better than this experimental crap (no offense). I can confidentially say with a guy who invested over 1k+ hours into this game can say that Legacy was THE SHIT. And, I get the reasons why they removed legacy, I just wish that FacePunch could include some of the legacy style/feel into the Rust we play today (*graphics*).
Additionally, this is game is legit unplayable as a solo player on vanilla servers (as you said). UpKeep time? That's some bullshit crap. I don't wanna spend hours farming, I bought this game for the PVP experience. If I wanted to farm, I'd go play Runescape or some crap like that.
