Hello, I would love to know what you guys (even more the devs) think about the map being dark at the start and you have to explore in order to see the things on the map like in strategical games just as Age of Empires for example. This combined with more PvE and special places (for example a mountain with a cave entrance where you can go all the way down to magma and farm ore or stuff) would surely improve the "explore"-factor in this game. I mean, noewadays I have like 0 reasons to explore since the map shows me everything... I don't like this that much tbh. Cheers
I believe what you are describing is a 'fog of war'. Not a bad suggestion.
It was like that before with the old maps that you had to craft. They switched to what it is now.
I think so too. agree with the author. the map does not give pleasure. What if I make the card recognizable? so that it can be explored?
I recall. I found that iteration of the map more enjoyable. From my understanding there is a lot of play-around happening with map mechanics FoW probably isn't high on their priority list, though is certainly low hanging fruit for when/if they decide to bring it back. I'm fairly certain maps will be re-done a few more times in days to come. (DAYDREAM_RANT_ZONE) While I'm on the thought, I do hope we get a re-vamp of how maps are interacted with via drawing and note adding. I think it would be cool if the maps took on a more 'hand-drawn' look, and that when you mark things down it would be as good as the marking tool you have, like a piece of charcoal vs. a graphite pencil you find. Not everyone out there enjoys this level of minutia but stuff like that really appeals to me in games. (/DAYDREAM_RANT_ZONE)
with websites as playrust.io, where you can see the map size or map seed of the server, you will always be able to see the map, even when "fog of war" will be implemented in game. I like the idea, but there are already things to work arround this feature.
Uff that's actually true, completely forgot about this. But I'm sure there would be a way to prevent this somehow, I just don't think for the devs it's worth the effort.. When I first joined the new Rust (played legacy back then) I was like: WOW, it's a completely new game. I enjoyed to explore every single piece of the map. But nowadays, when you play mostly every wipe for months the maps get boring imho. Although they change, the terrains and stuff are always the same. I would just love to have that "WOW"-effect again being able to explore a wonderful map.
I don't think you need to prevent it. The average player wouldn't do that and it's annoying to minimize Rust just to look at the map. I think its not such a big deal and its not a problem if some players use it to their advantage.
Most players have 2 displays. The point is, that the devs most likely won't implement an idea like this, if there is already a wide-used website where you can still see everything.
